Lady Wildcats to rely on experience
Stephanie Yeagle
The Harrisonville girls soccer team graduated only two seniors from last seasons quarterfinal team. So this year the Lady Wildcats have a ton of experience under their belts.
Head coach Dan Coleman counts that experience as Harrisonvilles overall strength.
Theres no substitution for playing in big games against quality opponents, Coleman said. But the irony is that I feel our main weakness is the fog of last years success, if that makes any sense. Im working really hard not to look back, or to allow the girls to look back. In doing so, there is real danger in becoming complacent or to think too highly of ourselves as a team. Nothing is going to be handed to us.
Harrisonville already competed in the Platte County Invitational, taking second place.
Early on here, its a matter of tightening things up, working on making good decisions and finding some of the necessary chemistry and creativity its going to take to get us where we want to go, Coleman said. In our first game, Id say there were a few moments, but it was a very workman-like victory; not very pretty to look at. Weve got to work to get better.
The Lady Wildcats have set some goals this season, but are just taking it one game at a time.
Its a new season, a new roster and a new opportunity, Coleman said. The past doesnt put any Ws in the win column. Weve got to go out hungry, start fresh, attack the season and earn any success all over again. Our goals this season are to be a true family on and off the field and to take one game at a time.
