The Cass County Sheriff’s Office was on the scene at Rush Hour Phillips 66 station at the junction of M-291 and M-58 highways April 1 investigating the death of a woman who was found shot inside a tractor-trailer.

Authorities were called to the scene shortly after 4 p.m. The woman, 45, was the victim of a gunshot wound.

Deputies arrived and spoke with the driver of the truck who told them his wife was in the sleeping berth of the truck. The driver said he had been driving from Wichita, Kan. He said he thought his wife was asleep, but when he tried to wake her he realized she had been shot. The driver pulled over at Rush Hour and had authorities notified.

Investigators determined the woman, who was from the St. Louis area, died from what appears to be a self-inflicted gunshot wound. Her body was released to the Jackson County Medical Examiner’s Office.

The incident is under investigation by the Cass County Sheriff’s Office, assisted by the Missouri State Highway Patrol.
