Formal arraignment set for Moreland
Jeffrey Dean Moreland, charged in the 2008 murder of Harrisonville woman Cara Jo Roberts, appeared for a case review Aug. 11 before Associate Circuit Judge Mike Rumley at the Cass County Justice Center.
Unlike his first appearance in July when he was wheeled into the courtroom in a wheelchair, Moreland walked on his own last week, but swayed back and forth during the brief hearing. He suffers from a condition referred to as palsy by Harrisonville police.
Moreland was arrested last month in connection with the rape of a Harrisonviile woman and days later charged with the Roberts murder as well as the homicide of a Kansas City woman, Nina Whitney. He will be formally arraigned on the Cass County charges at 1:30 p.m. Sept. 12 before Circuit Judge Mike Wagner. He continues to be held on a $1 million cash-only bond.
