Gilbert Eugene “Gene” Ray, 68, of Flemington, formerly of Pleasant Hill, was born Saturday, April 10, 1943, in Topeka, Kan. He died at 1:32 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 13, 2011, at St. John’s Hospital in Springfield.
Graveside funeral services were Friday, Dec. 16, at Pleasant Hill Cemetery. The flag folding ceremony and presentation were onducted by the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post #3118 Honor Guard.

Polly Anna Verhaalen, 73, of Belton, died Dec. 17, 2011.
Polly was born Dec. 6, 1938, in Oceola, to Hurbert and Cora Mae Morris Gardner. She attended St. Sabina Catholic Church in Belton.
She was preceded in death by her parents and brother, James Gardner of Belton.
Polly is survived by her husband, Don, of 52 years; sons, Donald and Edward both of Belton; daughters, Joyce Hale, Belton, Judy Verhaalen Lam, Lakewood, Wash., and Karen Verhaalen, Belton; brothers Hubert L. Jr. and Larry Gardner both of Belton, Wilbur Gardner, Harrisonville, and John W. Gardner, Killeen, Texas; sister, Martha Williams, Plains, Mont.; seven grandchildren and five great grandchildren.
Mass of Christian Burial was Thursday, Dec. 22, at St. Sabina Catholic Church, 700 Trevis, Belton. Burial in the Belton Cemetery.
