Henry Kistler Leyh

April 25, 1930 - Dec. 11, 2011

Henry Kistler Leyh, of Freeman, was born April 25, 1930, in Essex, Md. He died Sunday, Dec. 11, 2011, at his home near Freeman surrounded by love and family.

Miriam Martin Yoder

April 7, 1929 - Dec. 12, 2011

Miriam Martin Yoder was the fourth child of Bishop Elmer G. and Ada Martin, born April 7, 1929. Miriam was aptly named after the mother of Moses. She was a Godly woman who served the Lord, and loved her children. Miriam “Mim” Martin Yoder died at 9:30 p.m. Monday, Dec. 12, 2011.

Miriam attended Lancaster Mennonite High School and later studied pre-nursing at Eastern Mennonite College. Miriam went on to graduate from Reading Nursing School with an RN degree. She then took a job at Norristown State Hospital and it was there that she met James L. Yoder, who was involved in ministry outreach.

Mim and Jim married and raised their three sons, Garry Dean, Phillip Lee and Eric Todd in Harrisonville. She supported her husband in the family business, Yoder’s Orchard, using her personable traits to make customers feel welcomed.

Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her son, Garry Yoder, and a brother, Elmer Martin, Jr.

Mim is survived by two sons, Phillip L. Yoder and Eric Todd Yoder and wife Sonja all of Harrisonville; six grandchildren, Heather Weber, Amanda Yoder, Ashton Meyers, Kathryn Yoder, Julia Yoder and Eleonore Yoder; three great-grandchildren, Hunter Weber, Noah Weber and Samuel Meyers; four sisters, Gertrude Hollinger, Manheim, Pa., Anna Elizabeth Slaymaker, Mount Gretna, Pa., Lois J. Martin, Lancaster, Pa., and Eunice Martin Keller, Manheim, Pa.; other relatives and many friends.

A Celebration of Life Service was Dec. 29 at Harrisonville Community Church, Harrisonville. Cremation.

Jerry Don Stair

April 26, 1937 - Dec. 20, 2011

Jerry Don Stair, 74, of Pleasant Hill, was born Monday, April 26, 1937, in Harrisonville, the son of Earl Ernest and Merna Margaret (Bennett) Stair. He died at 7:47 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 20, 2011, surrounded by love and family at his home after a courageous battle with tongue cancer.

He was a 1955 Harrisonville High School graduate and a 1961 University of Missouri Graduate. He was a veteran of the United States Air Force Reserves.

On March 25, 1972, Jerry was united in marriage to Bonnie Sue (Bern) Smith in Kansas City.

Jerry was employed by Bendix/Allied Signal as a quality control engineer, retiring in 1997. He was an active member of St. Matthew Lutheran Church in Lee’s Summit, where he had served as Elder and in several other groups including the choir.

He is survived by his wife Bonnie of the home; two sons Randy (and Beth) Smith of Lee’s Summit, and Doug (and Stacey) Smith of Pleasant Hill; one daughter Amy (and Bob) Nelson of Pleasant Hill; two brothers Earl (and Janice) Stair of Monroeville, Pa., and Terry (and Karen) Stair of Lee’s Summit; 11 grandchildren Naomi, Nathan, Cierra, Sydnee, Derec, Krosbie, Carsyn, Kinlie, Madelyn, Mason, and Jace; one great-grandchild Quinton; other relatives and a host of friends.

Funeral services were Dec. 23 at St. Matthew Lutheran Church, Lee’s Summit. Interment was in Pleasant Hill Cemetery with full military honors by the VFW Post #3118 Honor Guard.

Casketbearers were Ed Hellwig, Jeremy Hellwig, Bill Losey, Bob Nelson, Doug Smith and Randy Smith.

Memorial contributions are suggested to St. Matthew Lutheran Church or Cancer Action and may be sent in care of the funeral home.

Wilma Ailene Helmuth

June 21, 1923 - Dec. 21, 2011

Mrs. Wilma Ailene Helmuth, of Harrisonville, was born June 21, 1923, near Garden City, the daughter of William and Mayme Etta (Dunlevy) Bell. She died Wednesday, Dec. 21, 2011, at Crown Care Center, Harrisonville, at the age of 88.

On Dec. 24, 1941, Wilma was united in marriage to Lawrence Willis Helmuth in Kansas City.

Wilma was a homemaker. She was a member of St. Paul’s Methodist Church, Raymore. Wilma had lived in Grandview; Burlington, Kan.; and Belton before moving to Harrisonville.

Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Lawrence Helmuth, and a brother, Omer Bell.

Wilma is survived by her two daughters, Vicky Trieb and husband Tim, Bothell, Wash., Linda Pennington and husband Tom, Peculiar; six grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; a sister-in-law, Vera Bell, Harrisonville; other relatives and many friends.

Funeral services were Dec. 23 at Dickey Funeral Home, Harrisonville. Burial was in the Strasburg Cemetery, Strasburg.

Everett Elmer Wilson, Sr.

Sept. 14, 1920 - Dec. 21, 2011

Everett Elmer Wilson, Sr., 91, of Harrisonville, died Wednesday, Dec. 21, 2011, at Crown Care Center in Harrisonville.

Everett was born Sept. 4, 1920, in Nodaway County, the son of Elmer and Rosemary (Wampfler) Wilson. He grew up in Savannah and was a graduate of Savannah High School. Everett married Mary Anna Lawrence on March 30, 1945, in Olathe, Kan. He lived in Belton for 13 years before moving to Harrisonville in 1966.

Everett owned a dairy farm, retiring in 2000. He was a member of Church on the Rock in Harrisonville.

Everett was preceded in death by his parents and his wife, Mary Anna Wilson, on March 1, 2009. He is survived by three sons, Everett E. Wilson, Jr., Harrisonville, Lawrence Wilson, Nevada, and Shawn Wilson, Elk City, Okla.; one daughter, Chash Giovenco, Toms River, N.J.; 12 grandchildren; 29 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandson.

Funeral services were Dec. 27 at Atkinson Chapel in Harrisonville, officiated by Rev. Bill Chaffin, Raytown.

Casketbearers were David Bundt, Josh Wilson, Stephen Wilson, Levi Wilson, Jade Miller, Mike Arnold and Ron Arnold. Burial was in Orient Cemetery, Harrisonville.

Jimmy O. Harris

Dec. 14, 1926 - Dec. 23, 2011

Jimmy O. Harris, 85, of Prescott, Kan., died Friday, Dec. 23, 2011, at Mercy Hospital, Fort Scott, Kan. He was born Dec. 14, 1926, in Mulberry, Kan., the son of Orville and Alice Lowe Harris. He married Betty Wood on Dec. 13, 1947, in Arcadia, Kan.

Jimmy was a veteran, having served with the United States Navy. He was employed as a police officer in Rich Hill, Butler, and with the Bates and Cass County Sheriff’s Departments.

He was a member of the Roman Catholic Church, the State Line Peace Officers, National Sheriff’s Association and Missouri Sheriff’s Association.

Jimmy was preceded in death by his parents; one son, Alan Harris; and one brother, Billy Gene Harris.

Survivors include his wife, Betty, of the home; two sons, Jim Harris and Deborah, Prescott, Kan., and Jack Harris and Nancy, Linn Valley, Kan.; two daughters, Linda Parks and Marty of Pleasanton, Kan., and Karen Hopper and Kenneth of Clinton; one daughter-in-law, Cheryl Harris, Garden City; one brother, Donald Harris; 16 grandchildren and 27 great-grandchildren.

As per his wishes, Mr. Harris was cremated. There was a prayer service Dec. 28 at Schneider Funeral Home, Pleasanton Chapel, Pleasanton, Kan.

John Michael Shultz

John Michael Shultz was born Dec. 7, 1952, in Warrensburg. He died Saturday, Dec. 24, 2011, in Kansas City.

Michael Clark Murray

March 10, 1953 - Dec. 25, 2011

Michael Clark Murray died Christmas morning after a courageous 35-year battle with Multiple Sclerosis. He was born March 10, 1953, in Kansas City.

There will be a memorial service at 11 a.m. Friday, Dec. 30, at Village Presbyterian Church, 6641 Mission Rd., Prairie Village, KS 66208.
