John Michael Shultz

John Michael Shultz, 59, of Warrensburg, died Saturday, Dec. 24, 2011, at the Kansas City VA Medical Center after a courageous battle with cancer. Michael was born Dec. 7, 1952, in Warrensburg, the son of Irvin Earl and Ethel Irene (Heath) Shultz. He was a graduate of Warrensburg High School.
Michael was a U.S. Navy veteran serving during the Vietnam war. He was a lifelong area resident. He worked for Cass County and Johnson County Road and Bridge. He also owned his own painting business. Michael was an avid fisherman and hunter, and he spent the last months of his life enjoying the outdoors. He was a very loving grandfather, father, brother, uncle and friend. He was a simple, living man with a kind-hearted spirit and had a sense of humor that could brighten the darkest day. He will be greatly missed.
Michael was preceded in death by his parents.
He is survived by one son, David Shultz and wife Crystal, Raymore, and one daughter Cassidy Shultz of Marion, Texas; one brother, Mitchell Shultz, Warrensburg, four sisters; Marjorie Potts and husband Ernie, Freeman, Kathy Bender-Sickels and husband Chuck, Higginsville, LeAnn Delgado, Hume, and Janice Hoge, Warrensburg; one granddaughter, Linnsey Jane Shultz; one soon-to-be-born grandson, and many other relatives and friends who loved him very much.

Mary Lee Dabbs

Mrs. Mary Lee Dabbs, of Harrisonville, was born Jan. 8, 1930, in Spruce, the daughter of Thomas Lee and Nettie Odela (Carter) Atkins. She died Monday, Dec. 26, 2011, at Research Medical Center, Kansas City, at the age of 81.
On Dec. 30, 1949, Mary was united in marriage to Eugene P. Dabbs in Eureka Springs, Ark.
Mary was a homemaker. She enjoyed gardening, doing crafts, traveling and playing card games. Mary had lived in Harrisonville since 1981 before moving to Garden City, and then back to Harrisonville in 2008.
Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by a sister, Lillie Mae Atkins.
Mary is survived by her husband Eugene P. Dabbs of the home; three sons, Robert Dabbs and wife Cheryl, Joplin, Thomas Dabbs and wife Kathy, Trimble, Ronald Dabbs and wife Donna, Grain Valley; 10 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; other relatives and many friends.
Funeral services were Dec. 29 at Dickey Funeral Home, Harrisonville. Burial was in Orient Cemetery, Harrisonville.

James Curtis J.C. Norris

James Curtis J.C. Norris, of Garden City, was born Nov. 19, 1927, in Weaubleau, the son of Thomas Alvin and Bertha Arizona (Rhoades) Norris. He died Tuesday, Dec. 27, 2011, at Research Belton Hospital, Belton, surrounded with love and family at the age of 84.
On July 1, 1951, J.C. was united in marriage to Marjorie Wayne Harp in Kansas City.
J.C. was employed as an Assistant Director of Maintenance for Johnson County Wastewater, Overland Park, Kan., for 32 years until his retirement in 1991. J.C. will be remembered by his family as being fun loving, caring and being Mr. Social. He enjoyed his family, watching basketball, the lake, fishing and visiting with friends. J.C. was a graduate of Garden City High School and the past several years spent time between Garden City and Wheatland.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife Marjorie on March 4, 2002; a brother, William T. Norris, and sister, Sarah Jewell Daily. J.C. is survived by a son, Curtis W. Norris and wife, Laurie, Garden City; three daughters, Judy C. Matthews and husband, Allen, Liberty, Barbara A. Norris, East Lynne, Lorraine Ash Dan and husband, Clinton, Tulsa, Okla.; 10 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; his sister, Eva June Kump, Raytown; other relatives and a host of friends. Funeral services were Dec. 31 at Dickey Funeral Home, Garden City. Burial was in Garden City Cemetery, Garden City.

Jerry Lee Bearkheimer, 72, of Harrisonville, died Wednesday, Dec. 28, 2011, at Golden Years Care Services, Harrisonville.

James Allen Doc Hickle, 75, of Garden City, died Sunday, Jan. 1, 2012, at his home.
James was an Air Force veteran and served during the Korean Conflict. He was a truck driver for Ideal Truck Lines in Kansas City, retiring in October of 1987.
Survivors include his wife Naomi of the home; one son James B. Hickle, Garden City; two daughters Bonita Johnson, Grandview, and Amanda Swanson, Omaha, Neb.; 10 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; one brother Carl Hickle, Farmerville, Ohio; and two sisters Ann Curtis, Wilkenson, Ind., and Peggy OCull, Maysville, Ky. Funeral services will be at 11a.m. Friday, Jan. 6, at Vansant-Mills Chapel, Clinton, with interment in Englewood Cemetery, Clinton. The funeral service will be conducted by Chaplin Doug Medgyesi. Songs selected for the service are Devoted To You, One More Day and Grandpa.
The casketbearers are Bryan Swanson, Brian Pickering, James B. Hickle, James C. Hickle, Larry Hickle and Kyle Swanson. The honorary casketbearers are Dakota Spangler, Levi Bailey, Steve Johanson, Jerry Anspaugh, Darrell Daniels and Bob Crain.

Ethel R. Kaderly, 92, of Lamar, died Tuesday, Jan. 3, 2012, at Barton County Memorial Hospital.
Ethel was born Sept. 17, 1919, in Latour, one of the three daughters of Earl and Rosa (Herr) Paul.
She married Gail Winton who preceded her in death. On Sept. 17, 1966, at Newport, Ethel married Henry E. Kaderly and they celebrated nearly 30 years together before he died April 9, 1996. She also was preceded in death by her parents; two sisters, Alma Ryan and Myrtle Scruthfield; two step-daughters, Phyllis Rice and Pauline Bemis; and three sons-in-law, Ronald Bemis, Bob Stevenson and Larry Rice. Survivors include two step-sons and their wives, Rick and Pam Kaderly, Lamar, and Jake and Kay Kaderly, Jasper; three step-daughters and their husbands, Fern and Kenneth Davis, Carthage, Susie and Larry Howland, Harrisonville, and Henry Etta and Bill Howell, Jasper; 14 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; and four great-great grandchildren.
In addition to being a homemaker, Ethel had worked for Big Smith for 32 years. She was a member of Cornerstone Baptist Church.
Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Friday, Jan. 6, at Daniel Funeral Home, where the family will receive friends from 10 a.m. until service time. Burial will be in Memory Gardens Cemetery.
Memorial contributions are suggested to Cornerstone Southern Baptist Church or Barton County Senior Center in care of Daniel Funeral Home.
