With a 33-12 lead at halftime, Pleasant Hill easily captured Odessa in the first round game of the Pleasant Hill Invitational Jan. 10.
The No. 3 seeded Roosters just outscored the No. 6 seeded Bulldogs 8-7 in the third quarter to keep a 41-19 advantage and put in their bench in the fourth quarter.
The Rooster bench put 23 points on the board in the fourth quarter compared to the Bulldogs 14 points to seal the 64-33 victory.
We played well with good defensive energy early, which was a huge emphasis for us..., Pleasant Hill head coach Ryan Messinger said. We were able to force some turnovers that led to easy baskets. We are a good transition team but have not been able to run much lately and it was nice to see our shooters really get some good open looks and knock them down. We did a lot of good things and look forward to the next round.
The Roosters were led in scoring by Hunter Mounce with 13 points and Nathan Watson with 11 points. Josh Shewmaker added 10 points and Brad Smith had eight points. Dillan Findley, Trenten Roach and Nick Shore netted six points each and Jared Burge and Josh Alaniz had two points apiece.
Pleasant Hill, now 6-5, faced No. 7 seeded Summit Christian Academy in the semifinals Thursday. If the Roosters win the contest, they will play in the championship game at 7 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 14.
