Elmer Daniel Leimkuhler, Jr.

May 17, 1930 - Jan. 4, 2012

Elmer Daniel Leimkuhler, Jr., 81, of Bella Vista, Ark., died following an unexpected illness. He was born May 17, 1930, at his home in Harrisonville, to Father Elmer Daniel Leimkuhler, Sr., and Mother Alice Belle (Peterson) Leimkuhler.

Elmer proudly served in the United States Air Force during the Korean War as an X-Ray Technician in Japan and was sought after for his exceptional mathematical skills to teach incoming recruits the fundamentals of mathematics. Following his honored service to our country, he completed his degree in architecture at Finlay College, Kansas City.

Elmer was married 44 years to his beautiful wife Patrice until her passing in 2006. In 1983, Elmer began a long, loyal and dedicated career with Walmart Stores, Inc. First, as Manager of Corporate Property Maintenance, then becoming Chief Architect. Elmer retired from his corporate position in 1998. Since retiring, he went back to Walmart Supercenter as a sales associate in the produce department in Bentonville.

He is survived by his two loving sons, Michael H. Leimkuhler of Bella Vista, Ark.; Scott Leimkuhler and loving daughter-in-law Malisa of Bentonville, Ark.; precious granddaughter Danielle Leimkuhler of Lexington Park, Md.; sisters and their families, Evelyn Kohler and her husband, Neil of Harrisonville. His sister Elinor Ann Chancellor of Belton; and best friend and companion Jorja Schlapp of Pea Ridge, Ark.

Funeral services were Jan. 11 at Bella Vista Funeral Home Chapel, with Pastor Richard Jebsen officiating. Graveside services followed at the Bella Vista Cemetery.


Sylvia Mae (Young) Bauer

Feb. 19, 1930 - Jan. 7, 2012

Sylvia Mae (Young) Bauer, 81, of Belton, died Saturday, Jan. 7, 2012. Mrs. Bauer was born Feb. 19, 1930, in Topeka, Kan.

Cremation.

Graveside Inurnment Service was Jan. 14 at Pleasant Hill Cemetery.

Darlene “Cookie” Louise Garrett

May 8, 1947 - Jan. 10, 2012

Darlene (Cookie) Louise Garrett, of Columbia, was born May 8, 1947, in Chicago, Ill. She died Tuesday, Jan. 10, 2012, at the age of 64. Graveside service was Jan. 19 at Garden City Cemetery.

C. Dale Thorington

April 15, 1934 - Jan. 10, 2012

C. Dale Thorington, 77, of Harrisonville, died Tuesday, Jan. 10, 2012, at Cass County Regional Medical Center. Mr. Thorington was born April 15, 1934, in Toppenish, Wash.

He was a 50-year member of the American Legion, a life member of the VFW and NRA, and thoroughly enjoyed being a member of Elks Post #2791.

Dale is survived by his beloved wife of 17 years Jean; three sons Martin, Wade and Kent; one daughter Jody; three stepchildren Bill (Jean), Lori (Steve), and Krista (Paul); and 12 grandchildren.

Wilma McArthur Mixon

Jan. 11, 2012

Wilma McArthur Mixon, 92, died Wednesday, Jan. 11, 2012, at Jay Florida Hospital.

She is survived by her brother Burton McArthur, Independence; sister Lavrice (Midge) Adams of Golden Years in Harrisonville; two grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. Wilma has over 40 nieces and nephews in the Missouri area.

The memorial service was Jan. 19 at the Blue Springs branch of Remnant RLDS Church. She will be missed by many.


John Howerton

July 22, 1927 - Jan. 12, 2012

John Howerton, 84, of Harrisonville, died Thursday, Jan. 12, 2012. John was born July 22, 1927, in Searcy, Ark., the son of Leo J. and Inez Marie (Dull) Howerton.

On Nov. 26, 1954, John was united in marriage to Julia Ann Zebert in Kansas City, Kan.

John was employed as a plumber for Midwest Mechanical Contractors in Kansas City until his retirement in 1988. He was a member of the Plumbers Local Union #8, Kansas City. John enjoyed farming as his second career and lived on his farm in Harrisonville for 52 years. He was a casual musician and played guitar and sang country music. John was a successful entrepreneur who built and sold houses and farmed for over 40 years. He enjoyed sporting activities and especially liked following the Royals and Chiefs. John loved spending time with his family and for the past 20 years, looked forward to going to Arizona during the winter.

Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by four brothers, Bill, Clayton, David and Tommy Howerton and a sister, Patty Watson. John is survived by his wife, Julia Howerton, of the home; two sons, Allen Howerton, Tucson, Ariz., Mark Howerton and wife Susan, Weatherby Lake; three daughters, Connie Clark and husband David, Raymore, Cheryl Petersen and husband Frank, Canton, Ga.; Deborah Howerton, St. Charles, Ill.; 13 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; a sister, Doris Dutton, Tucson, Ariz.; other relatives and many friends. Services were Jan. 18 at Dickey Funeral Home, Harrisonville. Interment was in Orient Cemetary,Harrisonville.

Ernie Ramsey

Sept. 16, 1947 - Jan. 12, 2012

Ernie Ramsey, 64, of Harrisonville, died Jan. 12, 2012. He was born Sept. 16, 1947, in Kansas City, to Les and Edna (Winger) Ramsey.

At an early age, Ernie accepted Christ as his Lord and Savior and was a member of First Baptist Church of East Lynne. He graduated from Harrisonville High School in 1965. On Oct. 19, 1965, Ernie was united in marriage to Elaine Pedigo in Martin City. To this marriage, a daughter Robin and a son Scott were born. Ernie was a union carpenter that specialized in cabinet making and trim work for 20 years. He was a master craftsman of the trade. In March 1982, he and his family started Ramsey’s Feed in Harrisonville. There he continued building the business for the next 30 years until April of 2011 when his health started to decline and forced him to retire. In the late ‘70s, Ernie, along with his family, enjoyed going to truck and tractor pulls. In 1977, he purchased a new Dodge 4x4 known as Chitty Chitty Bang Bang. The family traveled throughout the United States pulling against top-rated trucks. In 1980, he finished 3rd place in points throughout the nation.

He was preceded in death by his parents. Ernie is survived by his wife Elaine of 46 years; a daughter Robin Hasenyager and husband Bruce of Harrisonville; a son Scott Ramsey and wife Lynette of Harrisonville; four grandchildren Jamie and Matthew Hasenyager and Leslie “Haidyn” and Mairiah Ramsey; a brother Leslie Ramsey III and wife Sharon of Kansas City.

Funeral services were Jan. 16 at East Lynne Baptist Church with interment in Orient Cemetery, Harrisonville.

Ivan Lee Cumpton

Jan. 6, 1947 - Jan. 13, 2012

Ivan Lee Cumpton, of Dayton, was born Jan. 6, 1947, the son of Guy Dorven and Georgia Marie (Brown) Cumpton in Dayton.

Ivan spent his early years in Dayton and attended Dayton School and entered high school in Archie, where he completed his graduation in 1965.

Ivan saved up his money and purchased a 1965 Chevrolet Impala from his Uncle Van, brand new, and it was his pride and joy, which he still owned.

After graduation, Ivan received his summon from the great Uncle Sam. He was inducted into the Army in 1966 and the home boy was sent across the seas to the jungles of Vietnam. He was on a slow-moving barge and cooked three meals a day for the whole ship.

In May of 1971, he married Sharon Swetnam of Clinton and they moved to his parents farm just outside of Dayton.

In September 1957, Ivan gave his life to Christ and was baptized at Setter Ford. He was a member of Dayton Church and helped rebuild the original church after the fire, then hauled in the material needed for the most recent expansion.

He was preceded in death by his father Guy Dorven Cumpton. Ivan was a loving son, husband, father, grandfather and uncle.

He is survived by his wife Sharon of the home; his children, Michael Lee and wife Heather, Carrie Beth Johnson and husband Mark, all of Dayton, and Jared Lee of the home; his mother Georgia Cumpton of Dayton, grandchildren Taylor (Sunshine) and Jordan (Muffy) Cumpton, Ethan (E), Chase (Buckshot) and Sage (Sis) Johnson; four brothers Guy Herman, Alvin, and John all from Dayton, and Paul from Omaha, Neb., plus many loving nieces and nephews and a host of friends from all over the United States.

Services were Jan. 18 at Heart of Life Church, Garden City. Interment and Military Honors were at Dayton Cemetery near Garden City, by Harrisonvlle Honor Guard.

Penelope Grace Litle

Jan. 13, 2012

Penelope Grace Litle, stillborn infant daughter of Cass Litle and Emily Schoon, died at 4:37 p.m. Friday, Jan. 13, 2012, at McDonough District Hospital in Macomb, Ill.

She is survived by her parents of Macomb, Ill.; maternal grandparents Teresa Schoon of Canton, Ill., and John D. Schoon of Midland, Texas; maternal great-grandparents Juanita (the late Tony) Swast of Canton, Ill., and Willard and Ann Schoon of Glasford, Ill.; paternal grandparents Stephanie and Bennie Donnelly of Troy and Mark and Charlotte Litle of Troy; paternal great-grandparents Connie and Doug Williams of Wright, Wyo., and John and Blanche Litle of Harrisonville.

Graveside services were Jan. 18 at St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery in Canton, Ill.

Memorials may be made to McDonough District Hospital OB department.

Kenneth Wayne Danforth, Sr.

Oct. 27, 1936 - Jan. 16, 2012

Kenneth “Kenny” Wayne Danforth, Sr., 75, of Harrisonville, died Monday, Jan. 16, 2012, at his home.

Funeral services were Jan. 19 at First Baptist Church in Harrisonville. Burial was in Orient Cemetery, Harrisonville.
