Grain Valley Republican Mike Reneau announced recently his intent to run for state representative in the newly formed 33rd House District, which includes a portion of northeast and east central Cass County.

The district includes all or parts of Grain Valley, Blue Springs, Oak Grove, Lake Lotawana, Lone Jack, Pleasant Hill, and Harrisonville. “I’m a conservative, and I believe in smaller government, lower taxes, and less government interference in our everyday lives,” said Reneau.

“I know what it is like to run a small business and worry about making payroll and paying your bills. Creating jobs, helping small businesses, and addressing people’s employment needs should be the first priority of state government and the legislature in Jefferson City,” he said.

“So, after much prayer and with overwhelming encouragement from friends and family, I have decided to make a commitment to public service.”

Reneau has spent more than 15 years in local and small business consulting in the Kansas City area and started his own mortgage company in 2005.

He has served since 2007 as a member of the Grain Valley Planning & Zoning Board, and has volunteered at the Kansas City Tax Clinic where he helped individuals and former business owners with tax issues and claims.

He will complete his law degree from the University of Missouri-Kansas City in May 2012, and has worked as a Rule 13 prosecutor in Jackson County Circuit Court.

He works at a law firm in Lee’s Summit and is a licensed minister with Midtown Baptist Temple.

Reneau, 37, is married to his wife Meredith, and has two children, Gabrielle and Elijah.
