Despite Raymore-Peculiar’s Robraneque McGowin scoring 37 points, Lee’s Summit ran off to a 31-22 lead at halftime en route to a 65-53 victory over Suburban Big Six conference foes Raymore-Peculiar in the game held Jan. 19 at Raymore-Peculiar.
“The key to the game was our inability to block them out as they got nine offensive rebounds in the first half,” Raymore-Peculiar head coach Brad Gaines said.
The Tigers came out with an early four-point lead and led 17-10 at the end of the first quarter. Lee’s Summit just outscored the Panthers 17-15 in the third quarter but still led 48-37 going into the last eight minutes of play.
“Raymore-Peculiar is a tough team to play,” Lee’s Summit head coach Brian Bubalo said. “They play very hard. We were able to force some turnovers and get some buckets off of those.”
Tiger Aly Mosier had a career night, shooting seven of eight from the field and hitting eight of 14 from the free throw line for a total of 22 points.
“She was able to drive, get good shots and get fouled all night,” Bubalo said. “We won every quarter, but we were never able to keep a comfortable lead. Our free throw shooting in the fourth quarter was big for us.”
Eriyonna Jones also led in scoring for Lee’s Summit with 11 points, followed by Micah Wilson and Ali Patterson with 10 points. Breana Washington had six points and Taylor Gilkey, Regan Dodd and Abby Hinkle had two points each.
With the win, Lee’s Summit improves their record to 8-7 overall and 2-2 in conference.
Besides McGowin’s 37 points for the Panthers, Alyssa Janssen had eight points. Raymore-Peculiar, now 7-8, dropped their conference record to 0-5.
