Cleveland

•  By Dea Ann Ackerman. A quartet consisting of Sylvia and Eldon Landis, Dale Endicott, and Chuck Yates will perform a program of gospel music at 2 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 29, at Cleveland Christian Church. There also will be opportunities for a sing-along of the audience’s favorite hymns. Light refreshments and visiting will be offered after the program. The Cleveland Christian Church is located at 3rd and Main streets in Cleveland. For more information, contact Luci Hott at 816-658-3622.

•  Congratulations to Danielle Ackermann for earning a 4.0 at Pittsburg State University during the fall semester.

East Lynne

•  By Mischaele Bearce. Adam and Jaurie Wells will collect coats of all sizes to donate to some needy families in two weeks. This is just to get you looking in your closets, basements, etc. I will have more information on this next week.

•  Get well wishes go to Barbara Keyton who had surgery two weeks ago and still needs our prayers.

•  Last Saturday, Shawna and Brandee Branam had a bridal shower at the East Lynne Assembly of God Church for Emma Hartzler. She got a lot of beautiful gifts and a homemade quilt her future mother-n-law, Johnna Culpepper, had machine quilted for her and Chad. The quilt top was done by Chad’s grandmother many, many years ago. It was very stunning. Those who attended were Emma, Bethany Hartzler, Heather Stuby and her four daughters, Nancy Call, Shawna and Brandy Branam, Mischaele Bearce, Lisa Akins, Barbara Hayden, Donna Woolery, Lyndsay Sims, Mary Hartzler and Joan and Vivian, Beth Verstraete, Michelle Smalley, and Johnna Culpepper.

•  Happy birthday to Misty Terrell, Virginia King Kalista Schroeder, David Carnes, Crystal Mefford, Athena Swanigan, Kholby Barnes, J. Cantrell, Chad Fair, Logan Woodruff, Courtney Weseman, Jacob Vasser, Matt Magness, George Locke, Gage Scott, Audrey Christoffel, Samantha Dabbs, Duches Wall.

Freeman

•  By Nina Kemper. Recycling will be in Freeman from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. each day this weekend. This is so easy to do and everyone is encouraged to do what they can.

•  The Freeman Community Club will meet at 6 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 9, with a potluck dinner. The meeting will follow at 7 p.m. Following the meeting, there will be bingo and everyone is to bring a white elephant gift.

•  Senior citizen bingo will be at 11:30 a.m. Tuesday, Feb. 14. Lunch will be served at 11:30 a.m. followed by bingo. Everything is free. Just come and enjoy some good fellowship.

•  The Walmart Retirees will meet at 11:30 a.m. Tuesday, Feb. 21, at Diamond Ray’s in Mill-Walk Mall. If you retired from Walmart or were a long-time associate, please join this group.

•  Remember, West Line Opry is closed during February. It will re-open Wednesday, March 7. The shows will be from 7 to 10 p.m. every other Wednesday with no cover charge, but donations are appreciated.

• We extend our sympathy to the family and friends of William C. Watson.

•  Get well wishes go to Melissa Mickelson Piper who had knee surgery last week. Melissa is not to put any weight on her leg for several weeks. She is being cared for by her mother, Cherry Mickelson, in Freeman.

•  Merrilee Mickelson had cataract surgery last week and is recovering really well.

•  Get well wishes also go to Debbie Mincks, who spent a few days in the hospital last week.

•  Several people from the area attended the New Dinner Theatre on Sunday, enjoying Pump Boys and Dinettes. Among them were Nina and Norvell Kemper, Joyce Farr, and Diana Sanders. Following the play, the four stopped at the home of Kay, Greg and Gabby Buck. JoAnn Buck, from Hutchinson, Kan., was visiting in the Buck home and got to see Gabby Buck play basketball on Saturday.

•  On Saturday, Norvell and Nina Kemper went to Warrensburg to watch their grandson, Jared Allnutt, wrestle in the Warrensburg tournament. Jared took first place in his weight division.

•  Some birthdays for next week include: Feb. 4 - Dennis Ullery; Feb. 5 - Scott Sanders and Jean Reynolds; Feb. 6 - Abby Allnutt; Feb. 7 - Dalton Haydon; Feb. 8 - Austin Vannordstrand; Feb. 9 - Rita Taylor and Jerry Parker; Feb. 10 - Laurin Carver, Jerry Semsch and Dan Allnutt; Feb. 11 - Bambi Turk and Ann Sinclair.

•  Anniversary wishes go to John and Linda Weiss and Jan and Lee Gaddy on Feb. 6.

West Line

•  By Gail Lyon. Lois was very pleased at the call she got from her sister Mabel from Texas, her cancer is in remission. Lois and Mabel Welch and family want to thank everyone for their prayers and concerns.

•  Dawn Newman and family brought Chinese food for dinner to her parents, Robert and Lois Young, on Friday night.

•  Landon, Angela, Delana and Dathan had a birthday party for their son and brother Derek’s seventh birthday on Saturday with some of his school friends. It started at Pizza Hut and then they went bowling. Some others that attended were grandparents Bill and Bobbie Miner, Chris and Becky Miller, Lois Young, Doris Riggs, and Georgia Carol Smith.

•  While Lois was attending the birthday party, Ward Young and family came and had a weenie roast with his dad, Robert Young. Paul and Dalton Young also joined them.

•  It was the Richardson’s Sunday of the month dinner. There was a lot of good, home-cooked food and visiting. It was an enjoyable afternoon.

•  Nathan, Abby, Emma and Grandma Gail attended a birthday party at the West Line Community building for Bryce Clary. His mom and dad had a very colorful birthday party for the three-year-old. The theme was Go, Diego, Go, the little boy from the cartoon Dora adventures. There were a lot of little ones his size in attendance, in addition to grandparents Barry and Carla and many other family and friends.

•  The 26th Annual Cass Midway Basketball Tournament will be at 4:30 p.m. starting Monday, Feb. 6. There will be a lot of food to purchase for different activities for the school. There is always homemade pies from some of our women in the community. Come on out for dinner and support your local school.

•  West Line Opry will be closed the month of February and will re-open Wednesday, March 7, with a show every other Wednesday from 7 to 10 p.m. The cover charge is free, but donations are appreciated.
