Raymore Council issues proclamation; Post Office petition offered by Chamber
The Raymore City Council on Feb. 6 passed a resolution strongly opposing any change in the Raymore Post Offices status as a full-service postal facility, noting the citys population growth rate as among the highest in Missouri.
Additionally, Mayor Pro Tem Jeff Adams issued a proclamation asking for the communitys support in the campaign.
The actions were an official response to a Delivery Unit Optimization study currently being conducted by the United States Postal Service on the Raymore Post Office. Under the provisions of the Postal Reorganization Act of 1970 and federal law, the study seeks to evaluate the workload of the Raymore Post Office with a potential outcome of the findings shifting Raymores postal carriers to the Belton Post Office, rendering the Raymore branch to the role of a retail-only location.
Citizens interested in joining the effort can do so by calling or writing their elected officials in the U.S. Senate and House of Representatives, and by signing a petition currently being offered by the Raymore Chamber of Commerce. The petition may be signed at the Chamber office, 1000 W. Foxwood Dr., Raymore, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday.
Established in the 1870s, the Raymore Post Office presently services a total of 13 carrier routes - 11 carrier routes, an auxiliary route and a contract route. The location also exceeds $1 million in stamp revenue annually.
