School Road dominates commission talks
Improvements to School Road dominated discussion at the Feb. 6 meeting of the Cass County Commission, and one commissioner cited why.
It is a county road that is 24 feet wide, said County Commissioner Brian Baker. It has more children and more teenagers than any other road in Cass County. It is, I would dare say, one of the most traveled roads on county roadways. It is in desperate need of improvement for safety and the fact that it needs to be upgraded to handle all of that traffic.
Commissioners Baker and Luke Scavuzzo voted to task engineers with laying out improvements to the road and provide cost estimates.
We have said also that we want to look at doing School Road in two phases a north phase and a south phase, Baker said. The idea is to get it moving and moving forward.
The Commission also approved a correction to the county budget regarding the Dogwood Energy Plant.
We are going to be getting more money, Baker said. The treasurer just made an error. He didnt know that the schedule had changed this year.
Because the change occurred more than 30 days after budget approval, a public hearing was required. Although the Commission held a public hearing at the meeting, no citizens chose to speak on the matter.
We just needed to make an adjustment to the budget to show the correct number, Baker said.
In other action, the Commission approved various appointments, including Scavuzzo to the West Central Action Board as Cass County representative.
The Commissions next regular meeting is scheduled for March 5 at the Cass County Courthouse, 102 E. Wall St. in Harrisonville.
