Deputies with the Cass County Sheriff&#x2019;s Office and firefighters from West Peculiar Fire Department responded to a reported fire in the 23600 block of S. Scotsdale Terrace south of Peculiar around 9:45 p.m. May 17. </p><p>Firefighters on the scene discovered the body of victim burned in a burn pile in the yard. Investigators have identified the victim as Steven R. Carpenter, 56, of Peculiar. </p><p>Cass County Detectives and Jackson County Medical Examiners have not determined the nature of the death and are still awaiting lab results. </p><p>&#x201C;There appears to be no indication of foul play at this time, however we will wait for all the lab results to be returned before making a final determination,&#x201D; Cass County Sheriff Dwight Diehl said. </p><p> Investigators with the Cass County Sheriff&#x2019;s Office were assisted by the Missouri State Fire Marshall Office and Missouri State Highway Patrol.</p><p> The victim&#x2019;s body was released to the Jackson County Medical Examiner Office for further investigation.
