NARFE to have a luncheon meeting
The National Active and Retired Federal Employees Association, Chapter 1012, will have a luncheon meeting at 11 a.m. Friday, June 1, in Holmes Hall, Foxwood Springs Living Center, 1500 W. Foxwood Dr., Raymore. The optional lunch is $10. Chris Molendorp, 123rd District State Representative, will update us on legislative activities in Jefferson City. Boiled Shrimp Dinner planned
The VFW Post 4409 Harrisonville Mens Auxiliary will have its Boiled Shrimp Dinner from 5-8 p.m. Saturday, June 2.
Cost is $12 for one pound of shrimp, $20 for all-you-can-eat shrimp and $8.50 for pork roast. The public is welcome.
In addition, Taco Tuesdays are from 5 to 8 p.m. Tuesdays at the VFW. Cost is $1.50 each for authentic Mexican tacos.
Charity Motorcycle Ride for HELP Humane
The ride is Saturday, June 2, and begins at Rawhide Harley Davidson in Olathe, Kan. The cost is $25 per person/rider, which includes lunch by Jack Stack BBQ at the end of the ride and five raffle tickets. Relay for Life Golf Tournament
The Raymore Second Annual Relay for Life Golf Tournament, a benefit for The American Cancer Society, will be Monday, June 4, at The Golf Club of Creekmoor in Raymore. Belton Community Days taking applications for contests
Belton Community Days pageants are taking applications for contests. The Belton Baby Contest will be Saturday, June 9, and allow newborns through 24 months. The Miss Belton Contest will be Thursday, June 14, and is open to Belton High School female students in ninth through 12th grade. The Junior Prince/Princess contests are Friday, June 15, featuring Belton students in preschool through eighth grade.

Health services offered at Belton, Harrisonville
The Womens Health Services Belton Clinics will be June 6-7, 12, 20-21 and 26. The clinic is located at 119 Congress Street, Belton, and appointments are available for supply pickup.
Harrisonville clinics will be Wednesday, June 13 and 27, at 200 N. Oakland, Harrisonville. Participants must call for an appointment and cancellations should be made at least 24 hours in advance.
Services include clinical breast exams, pap smears, pelvic, HIV and sexually transmitted disease testing and treatment, pregnancy testing, reproductive and contraceptive counseling, and issuance of contraceptive supplies. For more infromation, call 888-577-4640, 660-476-2194 or 816-322-5012.
Pajama story time for children

Junk in the Trunk scheduled June 9
Harrisonvilles informal swap meet will meet from 5 to 8 p.m. Saturday, June 9, on the Courthouse Square. There is no admission fee for either shoppers or vendors. Members of the Strategic Planning Implementation Committee, which oversees the program, encourages residents to stuff your gently used treasures in your trunk or truck and bring them up to the square for sale. Organizers ask that vendors not arrive before 4:30 p.m., when the streets surrounding the square will be blocked off so people can safely set up and visitors can enjoy their shopping experience. In addition, people are not allowed to save parking spots for other vendors. Parking spots are assigned on a first come, first served basis. Finally, no animals or alcohol may be offered for sale during Junk in the Trunk.
Junk in the Trunk will be once a month on the second Saturday of each month. Future dates are July 7, Aug. 11, Sept. 8 and Oct. 13.
Barbecue cook off
Archie House and Blackjack BBQ, Archie, will have its annual Barbecue Cook Off/Car, Truck and Cycle Show on Saturday, June 9, . The cook off is from 6 a.m. to 4 p.m. and the Car, Truck and Cycle Show is from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. The event is free and open to everyone.
Softball tournament

100-mile motorcycle ride
The second annual T-3 Ride will leave the VFW building, 1804 N. Commercial, Harrisonville, at 10 a.m. Saturday, June 9, for a tour of western Missouri and eastern Kansas.

Kidney disease classes offered
Free Empower Kidney Disease classes are available from 5 to 7 p.m. each Tuesday through 2012 at four separate Kansas City area locations.
On the second Tuesday of every month, a class will be at Truman Medical Center Lakewood in Lees Summit for people who live in the southeastern area of greater Kansas City. Tuesday, June 12, will be the next class at Truman Medical Center Lakewood. Call 816-842-0076 to register for these classes.
Cass County Civil War Round Table meeting, picnic
The last meeting and annual picnic of the Cass County Civil War Round Table (CWRT) will be at 6 p.m. Tuesday, June 12, in Harrisonville City Park in shelter #2, just west of the city pool.

New Writers Club meets Wednesdays
The Harrisonville Branch of the Cass County Public Library will have a New Writers Club meeting every second and fourth Wednesday of each month. The next meeting is June 13.

Bunco Against Blindness June 14
Join the Belton Host Lions Club for its charity event to fight blindness with Bunco Against Blindness on Thursday, June 14. The event will be at 6:30 p.m. at Frankie and Johnnies Pub in Belton. Tickets to play are $10 and all proceeds go to support the Vision Program that provides free eye examinations and eyeglasses for any needy child in the Belton School District. Fair Queen candidates sought
The Cass County Fair is seeking candidates for this years queen contest. Women between the ages of 17 and 22, single and a resident of Cass County are eligible to participate.

Vaccination appointments
now available
The Cass County Health Department is scheduling appointments for children and teens needing vaccinations. If the child is uninsured or covered by Mo HealthNet, there is no charge for the vaccines. If the child is privately insured, there will be a $5 charge.
Parents needing school shots for their children should take advantage of clinics scheduled before August to avoid the crowds.

West Line Opry hosts Saturday dances
The West Line Opry will have a dance from 7 to 10 p.m. the second Saturday of every month throughout its season.
A country show will be from 7 to 10 p.m. every other Wednesday. Organizers invite all area residents to come have fun. Admission is free, but donations will be accepted.
Cass County Women Democrat Club meets second Thursday

Archie Schools offer free screenings
All families living in the Archie School District are eligible to receive a free developmental, health, hearing and vision screening for children 4 months to 5 years old. These free screenings are provided by the school district through the parents as teachers program. A screening can be done at home or at the school.
