Seeded No. 1 in the Class 1, District 12 tournament, the Harrisonville girls’ tennis team swung past Clinton 5-1 in the semifinals Oct. 2 in Warrensburg.

“The girls played really well,” Harrisonville head coach James Norman said. “We wanted to finish the match in the singles portion of the competition and were able to follow through. We are still facing several injuries, but have been able to overcome them so far.”

The Lady Wildcats, 8-2, took on Warrensburg for the championship match Oct. 3. Results will be in next week’s issue.

“Warrensburg will be a tough opponent,” Norman said. “We defeated them 5-4 earlier in the season, but this match means more. We started the season with the goal of competing for the district championship and we feel like we are in a good position to accomplish that goal.”

The Belton tennis team defeated Raymore-Peculiar 5-2 in the first rond of the Class 2, District 13 tournament held Oct. 1 at Belton. Raymore-Peculiar ends their team season with a record of 5-10.
