Harrisonville celebration planned
The Cass County Historical Society is planning a celebration of the founding of Harrisonville 175 years ago. The celebration will be during the Burnt District Festival Oct. 5-6. If you are a descendant of one of the founding fathers, please contact the office at 816-380-4396.

Grin & Bear It 5K
The Cass Regional Medical Center Foundation will host the third annual Grin & Bear It Run, a 5K run/walk, on Saturday, Oct. 6. The event is held in memory of Cara Roberts, a young wife and mother who passed away in 2008. Cara’s nickname was "Care Bear," which is how the event got its name. Proceeds from the run/walk benefit the Patient Assistance Fund at Cass Regional. The run will begin at 8 a.m. on the north side of the Harrisonville square (100 block of East Pearl St.). Registration fees are $25 to $30 for adults and $15 for children 12 and under. To register online, visit www.enter2run.com. Fish fry and silent auction
The First Baptist Church of Peculiar will be hosting a fish fry and silent auction 5-7 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 6, at the church, located at 216 E. Broadway. Donations will be accepted toward the church’s building fund. For more information, contact the church at 816-779-5512.

PHHS 1972 reunion scheduled
The Pleasant Hill High School Class of 1972 is planning their 40th reunion for 7-11 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 6, at Hoot’s Hollow at County Creek Golf Course. Classes of 1971 and 1973 are also invited. BHS 1977 reunion planned
The Belton High School class of 1977 will celebrate their 35th year class reunion Saturday, Oct. 6, at Frankie & Johnnie’s in Belton. Festivities begin at 7 p.m. BHS classes of 1975 through 1979 are invited to attend, as well.

Animal vaccinations
HELP Humane is sponsoring a low cost vaccination clinic for dogs and cats on Saturday, Oct. 6, from 1-5 p.m. at Man’s Best Friend located at 329 S. Mullen Rd. in Belton. Distemper & rabies vaccinations will be available for $30. No appointment is necessary. Bordatella and flea treatment will be available at additional charge. Micro-chipping also available for $25. Please bring cats in carriers and dogs must be on a leash.

Shrimp dinner
The VFW Men’s Auxiliary Post 4409 of Harrisonville will be hosting a boiled shrimp dinner 5-8 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 6. Cost is $12 for 1 pound of shrimp, $20 for all-you-can-eat shrimp, or $8.50 for pork roast. The dinner is open to the public. The shrimp dinner is held the first Saturday of every month.

Ducks Unlimited dinner
The annual Ducks Unlimited membership banquet will be held on Saturday, Oct. 6, at the Cass County Elks Lodge in Harrisonville. Ticket are $50 for couples, $35 for singles, and $15 for Greenwings. The Harrisonville branch of the Cass County Public Library will be hosting a toddler storytime on Wednesdays, from Oct. 10-Nov. 14, at 9 a.m. The storytime will include approximately 20 minutes of stories, music and finger plays for toddlers ages 18-36 months. Boy Scout garage sale
Garden City's Boy Scout Troop 244 will hold its fourth semi-annual garage sale at the Garden City Community Building from 8 a.m-5 p.m. Friday, October 12, and 8 a.m.-3 p.m. Saturday, October 13. On Saturday, everything that can be stuffed in a sack can be purchased for $1 starting at 11 a.m. All money raised will help send boys to camp at H. Roe Bartle Scout Camp next summer.

Blaine Whitworth fundraiser
A fundraiser for Blaine Whitworth will be 1 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 21, at Eric’s Rockin C Bar & Grill, 217 Main St., Garden City, for a “Go Big Or Go Home Poker Tournament.” iAll proceeds will be donated to the Blaine Whitworth UCM Scholarship Fund. There will be a $25.00 buy in and you must be 18 years old or older to play in the tournament. An all-you-can-eat BBQ buffet for $15 will be served. There will also be a raffle, T-shirts and wristbands for sale.

Spooky campfire stories
The Harrisonville branch of the Cass County Library will be hosting a family program Monday, Oct. 22 at 6 p.m. Get comfy, enjoy s'mores, and listen as library staff and volunteers read classic spooky stories around the campfire. Stories aren't too scary, but parents are encouraged to preview the stories in advance for young or easily-scared children. A copy of the stories will be available at the service desk a week before the program.

Chili cook-off
The Peculiar Area Chamber of Commerce will be hosting their first People’s Choice Chili Cook-Off at the Harvest Moon Festival Saturday, Oct. 27. Tasting will be 2-3 p.m., and an awards presentation at 3:30 p.m. The event is a fundraiser to benefit the Chamber of Commerce annual scholarship and Boys and Girls State Sponsorship. Entry registration is required by Oct. 19.

Trunk-or-Treat
A Harrisonville-wide Trunk-or-Treat event will be held 2-4 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 28 on the Historic Harrisonville Square. Participants of all ages are invited to dress up in their Halloween costumes and enjoy Trick-or-Treating before dark. Admission is free, but all guests are encouraged to bring at least one can of food for the local food pantry. Parking is available in city lots south of Wall Street and east of the square.
