Students honored for showing responsibility

October 12, 2012

Sherwood Elementary School recognizes students each month that have shown great character. Two students are honored each month, one from grades kindergarten through second and one from third through fifth grade.

Staff members are encouraged to nominate students that have gone above and beyond to use the character trait of the month. September’s character word was Responsibility. The character word of the month is discussed in each classroom and students have had many opportunities to practice the character trait. Teachers encourage their students by modeling these character traits in class.

Many students were nominated for showing amazing responsibility this month. Each child nominated will have their picture and the teacher’s comments displayed on a wall in the school showing off Sherwood students with great character.

Hannah Toombs was nominated by her teacher for showing responsibility in her classroom. Toombs is Robin Osborne’s kindergarten class.

“Hannah always remembers her agenda and folder,” Osborne said. “She helps her table mates keep the table clean and is just an all-around sweet girl.”

Britten Wood is a third grade student in Cassie Cunningham’s classroom.

“Britten Wood is very responsible,” Cunningham said. “He is always ready to go when he is in the class, in the hall, a special class, or any other time. He is prepared without anybody telling him what to do.”
