Women’s health clinics

The Women’s Health Services Belton clinics will be held Oct. 9, 17, 23 and Nov. 7, 13, 15, 21, 27 and 29, at 119 Congress St., Belton. The Harrisonville clinic will be held Oct. 10, 24 and 28, at 200 N. Oakland St., Harrisonville. Preschool story time

Preschool storytime at the Harrisonville branch of the Cass County Library is in full swing through Wednesday, Nov. 28. Sessions are held at 11a.m. on both Tuesdays or Wednesdays, and include alphabet fun with stories, songs and crafts.

Toddler story time

The Harrisonville branch of the Cass County Public Library will be hosting a toddler storytime on Wednesdays, through Nov. 14, at 9 a.m. The storytime will include approximately 20 minutes of stories, music and finger plays for toddlers ages 18-36 months. NARFE meeting

The National Active and Retired Federal Employees Association (NARFE), Chapter 1012, will hold a luncheon meeting at 11 a.m., Friday, Oct. 12, in Holmes Hall, Foxwood Springs Living Center, 1500 W. Boy Scout garage sale

Garden City’s Boy Scout Troop 244 will hold its fourth semi-annual garage sale at the Garden City Community Building from 8 a.m-5 p.m. Friday, October 12, and 8 a.m.-3 p.m. Saturday, October 13. On Saturday, everything that can be stuffed in a sack can be purchased for $1 starting at 11 a.m. All money raised will help send boys to camp at H. Roe Bartle Scout Camp next summer.

Mennonite relief sale

The 39th annual Western Missouri Mennonite Relief Sale will be Oct. 12-13, at Sycamore Grove Mennonite Church, 27221 S. Sycamore Grove Rd., Garden City. The Cass County Public Library is partnering with Metropolitan Community College to offer introductory computer classes at the Harrisonville branch. Class meet every other Thursdays. Hope Haven fundraiser

The Cass County Elks Lodge No. 2791 will be hosting a fundraiser for Hope Haven of Cass County 6 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 20. Cost is $5 per person, and includes live music and dinner. An auction and raffle will also be available.

Crafters needed

Community Bank event

Community Bank of Harrisonville will be hosting a celebration for children in the community Saturday, Oct. 20, 10 a.m.-noon. There will be clowns, a balloon artist, face painting, crafts and games. There will also be hot dogs, chips, refreshments and cotton candy for everyone. The Harrisonville Police Department will be conducting the I-Dent-A-Kid program, and will be taking pictures of each child to include in their identity packet.

Electronics recycling

The Cass County Sustainability Committee is hosting an electronics recycling event 9 a.m.-noon Saturday, Oct. 20, at the Mill-Walk Mall Family Center, 2601 Cantrell Rd., Harrisonville. All electronics collected at this event will be transported to a recovery center for safe destruction and recycling. The tentative fees to be collected per item received at this year’s Cass County e-waste event are as follows: Stereos, small fax machines, VCRs, desktop printers less than 15”x15”x10”and scanners are $5. Computer monitors, televisions 19” and under, microwaves, large 3-in-1 fax machines, and medium printers (15”x15”x10” to 15”x18”x13”) are $10. Televisions 20” and larger are $15.Console televisions and large printers (plotters and laser printers larger than 15”x18”x13”) are $25. Projection and other large televisions are $30. Computer CPUs, keyboards, mice, drives, parts; cell phones; pagers; home phones; PDAs; gaming consoles; handheld video games; joysticks and controllers will be collected free of charge.

Blaine Whitworth fundraiser

A fundraiser for Blaine Whitworth will be 1 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 21, at Eric’s Rockin C Bar & Grill, 217 Main St., Garden City, for a “Go Big Or Go Home Poker Tournament.” iAll proceeds will be donated to the Blaine Whitworth UCM Scholarship Fund. There will be a $25.00 buy in and you must be 18 years old or older to play in the tournament. An all-you-can-eat BBQ buffet for $15 will be served. There will also be a raffle, T-shirts and wristbands for sale.

Spooky campfire stories

The Harrisonville branch of the Cass County Library will be hosting a family program Monday, Oct. 22 at 6 p.m. Get comfy, enjoy s’mores, and listen as library staff and volunteers read classic spooky stories around the campfire. Stories aren’t too scary, but parents are encouraged to preview the stories in advance for young or easily-scared children. A copy of the stories will be available at the service desk a week before the program.

Children’s author visiting

The Cass County Public Library Foundation will be hosting Pete Cowden, children’s author and owner of the Reading Reptile Bookstore in Brookside, at their annual author event on Tuesday, Oct. 23, at the Northern Resource Center in Belton at 6:30 p.m. Also appearing with Mr. Cowden will be April Roy, a librarian at the Kansas City Public Library and a judge for the Caldecott Medal given each year to the best illustrated children’s book. Roy, a graduate of Archie High School, will talk about how the Cass County Public Library shaped her career in libraries.

Book sale

The First Christian Church, 400 S. Independence St., Harrisonville, is seeking donations for their s sixth annual used book sale. Books, popular magazines, videos, DVDS and CDs will be accepted. Please do not donate encyclopedia sets, text books or personally recorded items. Please have donations at the church by Thursday, Oct. 25. The sale will be held Saturday, Oct. 27, from 8 a.m.-3 p.m., with a $1 book sack special from 2-3 p.m. Proceeds will benefit the Shepherd’s Staff Food Pantry. The City of Peculiar will be hosting a ribbon cutting ceremony and open house at the city’s new City Hall, 250 S. Main St., Peculiar, Thursday, Oct. 25, from 4-7 p.m.

Chili cook-off

The Peculiar Area Chamber of Commerce will be hosting their first People’s Choice Chili Cook-Off at the Harvest Moon Festival Saturday, Oct. 27. Tasting will be 2-3 p.m., and an awards presentation at 3:30 p.m. The event is a fundraiser to benefit the Chamber of Commerce annual scholarship and Boys and Girls State Sponsorship. Entry registration is required by Oct. 19.

Trunk-or-Treat

A Harrisonville-wide Trunk-or-Treat event will be held 2-4 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 28,on the Historic Harrisonville Square. Participants of all ages are invited to dress up in their Halloween costumes and enjoy Trick-or-Treating before dark. Admission is free, but all guests are encouraged to bring at least one can of food for the local food pantry. Parking is available in city lots south of Wall Street and east of the square.

Pumpkin painting

Harrisonville Parks and Recreation Department will be hosting pumpkin painting activity 2-3 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 28, at the northeast corner of the square in Harrisonville for children 10 years or younger. Holiday Vendor Blender fundraiser
