Sherwood selects scholar-athletes
Sherwood Cass R-8 has chosen seniors Kristen Searcy and Isaac Miller as the scholar athletes for the month of October. Both are first time winners and heading to the state of Ohio for college.
Searcy has been recognized for many athletic awards during her career in softball, including a possible all-state recognition in 2012. She holds the school records in season batting average, hits, doubles, career batting average, and career doubles.
This past season she went the entire season with just one fielding error in 23 games, only one strikeout in 70 attempts at the plate along with batting .645 and smashing seven homeruns. In her career, she has played softball, cross country, basketball and track. She will be attending Ohio University on scholarship for softball.
“Kristen is the most coachable star player that I have ever coached,” Sherwood athletic director and softball head coach Scott Calhoun said. “She will do anything for the team and always stays quiet and focused.”
Isaac Miller is currently playing football for the Sherwood Marksmen.
“Isaac is consistently the hardest worker on my team,” Sherwood head football coach Jim Gurney said. “He always shows up and gives 100 percent. “
During his athletic career Isaac has always been noted as a hard worker and team player. He demonstrates compassion for his fellow classmates and teammates and this makes him very popular amongst the student body.
“I coached him in middle school and he was a joy to coach,” Calhoun said. “He always stayed positive and seemed to enjoy every game and practice. Even made a winning basket from half court in Warrensburg. He is a great kid.”
