Tate Stevens watch party

The public is invited to help cheer for Belton native Tate Stevens on the X Factor at a watch party every Wednesday at the Belton High School Freshmen Center Commons. Doors will open at 6:30 p.m. The event is free, but a donation of kid-friendly, non-perishable food item is appreciated. T-shirts and concessions will be available to benefit local children. Gifts from the heart

For parents who aren’t able to afford Christmas gifts for their children age 15 and under, Heart-N-Hand will be taking intake requests 9 a.m.-2 p.m. Nov. 10; 4-8 p.m. Nov. 13, and 9 a.m.-2 p.m. Nov. 1, at their headquarters, 122 Lillard Ave., Belton. Participants must be able to prove Cass County residency.

Thanksgiving dinner

The Garden City United Methodist Church invites the public to the church’s nnnual turkey dinner at 5 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 10. Turkey, brisket, potatoes, vegetables, dessert and a drink will be served. Cost is $9 for adulds, $5 for children 8-12 years of age, and age 7 and under are free. The evening will also feature a drawing for a homemade quilt by the UMC Quilters.

Women’s health clinic

Holiday crafts show

The Downtown Peculiar Arts & Culture District will be hosting a Handcrafted Holiday Arts & Fine Crafts show, 9 a.m.-8 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 10, at Brierly Hall, 163 W. Center St., Peculiar. The event will feature unique, handcrafted items for gifts and holiday season decorations. Entertainment and door prizes will also be available. Veteran’s breakfast and assembly

The Archie PTO will host the annual Veteran’s Day breakfast on Monday, Nov. 12, from 7:50-8:15 a.m., in the district commons. An assembly will follow at 8:30 a.m. in the dome gym.

Grief support

Serenity Care Hospice is offering a “Grief During the Holidays” support group Monday, Nov. 12, and Monday, Nov. 26, from 6-7:30 p.m. at the Tri-Cor Building, 1626 E. Elm, Harrisonville. The group will aim to provide attendees opportunities to explore feelings, strategies for coping during the holidays and support from others who have experienced a loss. Transition fair

The Cass County Transition Coordinators invite families of Belton, Raymore-Peculiar, Cass-Midway, Pleasant Hill, and Harrisonville school districts the annual Cass County Transition Fair Tuesday, Nov. 13, from 6-8 p.m, at Harrisonville High School. Representatives from local and regional agencies specializing in providing services to individuals and families with special needs will be available to give information and answer questions in the Harrisonville High School Multi-purpose Room. Included in those agencies are: Vocational Rehabilitation, Life Care Planning, Pathways Community Behavioral Health, CASCO Area Workshop, Rehabilitation Institute of Kansas City, and The Whole Person, MPACT and many more. Additionally, there will be four breakout sessions for students and families to choose from on specific topics, such as guardianship and vocational support and training.

American Legion meeting

American Legion Auxiliary Unit 488 representatives will be available to meet with those interested in learning more about the Auxiliary Nov. 17 between 10 a.m.-2 p.m. at Carnegie Village, 107 Bernard Dr., Belton. The public is invited to come and learn about the veterans service organization. Eligibility for membership is based upon a veteran serving during war as declared by congress, and is open to a relationship of the veteran as: a mother, wife, daughter, sister, grandmother, granddaughter, or great-granddaughter. The Cass County Rescue Mission will serve a free Thanksgiving meal Saturday, Nov. 17, at the Harrisonville American Legion building, 303 E. Spaghetti dinner

The Bayard Chapter No. 179 Order of the Eastern Star will host an all-you-can-eat spaghetti dinner 11 a.m.-3 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 18, at the Masonic Lodge in Harrisonville, 405 N. Independence. Meal will include bread, salad, drink and dessert. Cost is $7 for adults and $5 for kids ages 5-11. Kids under 5 years old are free. Carryout available.

PHHS fundraiser

Pleasant Hill High School is welcoming Branson’s Liverpool Legends to perform their Branson show to benefit the Pleasant Hill High School Music Department. Peformances will be 7 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 17, and 3 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 18. Tickets are $25 in advance and $30 at the door.

Preschool storytime at the Harrisonville branch of the Cass County Library is in full swing through Wednesday, Nov. 28. Sessions are held at 11a.m. on both Tuesdays or Wednesdays, and include alphabet fun with stories, songs and crafts.

Hanging of the greens

Area residents are invited to the Faith Baptist Church of Harrisonville for the "Hanging of the Green" service on Sunday, Dec. 2. The event begins at 5 p.m. with a light meal and the making of a tree decoration. At 6:30 p.m., the program includes children helping hang the Christmas green with Bible readings and Christmas hymns. Toddler story time

The Harrisonville branch of the Cass County Public Library will be hosting a toddler storytime on Wednesdays, through Nov. 14, at 9 a.m. The storytime will include approximately 20 minutes of stories, music and finger plays for toddlers ages 18-36 months. Writer’s club

The Harrisonville branch of the Cass County Library is hosting a Writer’s Club that meets the second and fourth Wednesdays of each month at 6 p.m. Participants will have the opportunity to meet with other writers, share writing tips, practice with writing prompts, critique other people’s work, and more. Coffee and tea provided.
