Buddie Grace Anderson

Buddie Grace Anderson, 80, of Raytown, formerly of Pleasant Hill, died Monday, Nov. 5, 2012, at Monterey Park Nursing Center in Independence.

Funeral services were Nov. 9 with Reverend Winda “Windy” Lovett officiating. Interment was in Pleasant Hill Cemetery.

James Dwight Fisher

June 3, 1960 - Nov. 7, 2012

James Dwight Fisher, 52, of Archie, died Wednesday, Nov. 7, 2012, in Archie. He was born June 3, 1960, to Dwight Willis and Margie Louise Beasley Fisher in Harrisonville.

Jim, one of four boys, grew up in Archie and Butler and graduated from Butler High School in 1978. After graduating, he served his country in the U.S. Army and was honorably discharged. For a few years, Jim was a plumber in Texas. He later was employed as a landscaper at Rose Hill Gardens in Belton. Most recently he was working in the maintenance department for Golden Years and Benchmark nursing homes.

Jim enjoyed fishing, deer hunting, watching NASCAR on television, cooking and spending time with his great-nephew and great-nieces. He loved a good joke and found pleasure in helping others.

Jim is survived by his parents, Dwight and Margie Fisher, of Archie; three brothers, Delbert Eugene Fisher and wife Mary of Archie, Ricky Lee Fisher of Foster and Larry Ray Fisher of Archie; and nephews, nieces, great-nephew, great-nieces, uncles, and aunts.

Funeral services were Nov. 9 at Schowengerdt Funeral Chapel in Butler with Pastor Larry Hess officiating. Burial was in Pitts Chapel, East Lynne.

Contributions may be made to American Cancer Society or Crossroads Hospice.

Vernon Alfred James

Dec. 7, 1925 - Nov. 8, 2012

Vernon Alfred James, 86, of Freeman, died Thursday, Nov. 8, 2012, at his home.

Vernon was born Dec. 7, 1925, in Jefferson, Okla., the son of Rex Alfred and Ella (Ricks) James. He graduated from Freeman High School in 1944. He was a WWII U.S. Navy veteran. Vernon married Lois Eileen Gray on July 14, 1950, in Pleasant Hill. He was a member of First Baptist Church in Wirt, Okla.

Vernon was a dispatcher for Amoco Pipeline for 43 years, retiring in 1989. He was a member of Blue Ridge Gem and Mineral Club, an OCAW Union representative and a lifelong NRA member.

He was preceded in death by his parents, one sister, Betty Jane Wood, and one grandson, Stephen Hatch. He is survived by his wife, Lois, of the home; one son, Gregg James and wife, Sherrill, Craig, Colo.; two daughters, Terre James Labus and husband, Dennis, Cleveland, and Denise Hatch and husband, Glen, Harrisonville; four grandchildren, Whitney Lowe, Jessica James, Garrett James and Makayla Hatch and several nephews and nieces.

Funeral services were Nov. 12 at Atkinson Chapel in Harrisonville, officiated by Rev. Ernie Cecil, Antioch Southern Baptist Church, Harrisonville. Military honors were under the auspices of the Harrisonville Honor Guard. Memorial contributions may be made to Harrisonville Christian School.

Alma Ann Haug

Dec. 14, 1920 - Nov. 12, 2012

Alma Ann Haug, 91, of Harrisonville, died Monday, Nov. 12, 2012.

Alma was born Dec. 14, 1920, in Baileyville, Kan., the daughter of Bernard and Clara (Nolte) Kramer. She graduated from Catholic School in Seneca, Kan. She married Vincent Haug on Nov. 22, 1941, who later died Jan. 10, 1969. She then married William “Bill” Park Shiffer, who later died Nov. 1, 1993.

Alma had lived in Harrisonville since 1941. She worked as the receptionist for Anaconda Wire and Cable Mfg. from their beginning, in 1963, until she retired in 1979. Alma was a charter member of Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church. She also was a member of Red Hats and Delvers in Harrisonville.

Alma was preceded in death by her parents, husbands Vincent Haug and Bill Schiffer, and one son, Larry Vincent Haug. She is survived by three daughters, Jeanette Ann Astor and Alice Marie Bodson, both of Des Moines, Iowa, and Patricia Louise Gereau of Iowa City, Iowa; two sisters, Betty Baldwin of Wichita, Kan., and Mary Holtgraver of Gardner, Kan.; three grandchildren, Elyssa Harvey, Gregory Harvey, and Christine Martin, and 11 great-grandchildren.

Funeral Mass was Nov. 14 at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church in Harrisonville. Burial was in Orient Cemetery, Harrisonville. Memorial contributions may be made to the church.

Robert Long, 43, of Harrisonville, died Tuesday, Nov. 13, 2012, at Belton Regional Medical Center, Belton.
