Students honored for showing honesty
Sherwood Elementary School is again recognizing students each month that have shown great character. Two students are honored each month, one from grades kindergarten through second and one from third through fifth grade. Staff members are encouraged to nominate students that have gone above and beyond to use the character trait of the month. Students honored for the month of October were kindergartner Lexi Scott and fourth grader Kaitlyn Bailey.
The character word of the month is discussed in each classroom and students have had many opportunities to practice the character trait. Teachers encourage their students by modeling these character traits in class.
Many students were nominated for displaying honesty at school this month. Each child nominated will get to have their picture and the teacher’s comments displayed on a wall in the school showing off Sherwood students with great character.
“Lexi Scott is one of the most honest students in my class,” Sherwood teacher Krista Seiner said. “Whether she is telling about something that happened at school, keeping her teacher on track in the classroom or admitting to wrong doing; Lexi understands that being honest is the way to be. It is often difficult for younger students to be honest when they know that honesty may come with consequences. “
“I would like to nominate Kaitlyn Bailey for character word honesty,” Sherwood teacher Jill Swetska said. “Kaitlyn is a very honest student. She always tells the truth, even if it is not a good thing. Keep up the good work Kaitlyn.”
