Canned food drive

Golden Years in Harrisonville is hosting a food drive to donate to the local community food pantry through Friday, Nov. 30. Non-perishable food and canned goods accepted.

Tate Stevens watch party

The public is invited to help cheer for Belton native Tate Stevens on the X Factor at a watch party every Wednesday at the Belton High School Freshmen Center Commons. Doors will open at 6:30 p.m. The event is free, but a donation of kid-friendly, non-perishable food item is appreciated. T-shirts and concessions will be available to benefit local children. DAV assistance

The Disabled American Veterans Chapter No. 67 of Butler will be at the Cass County Public Library, 400 E. Mechanic St. Harrissonville, 9 a.m.-4 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 26 to assist veterans in applying for their benefits. For questions, contact Darrel Rogers at 816-738-4536.

Grief support

Serenity Care Hospice is offering a “Grief During the Holidays” support group Monday, Nov. 26, from 6-7:30 p.m. at the Tri-Cor Building, 1626 E. Elm, Harrisonville. The group will aim to provide attendees opportunities to explore feelings, strategies for coping during the holidays and support from others who have experienced a loss. Book signing

A book signing will be held 6:30-8 p.m. for the new book, Harrisonville, by Carol Bohl and David Atkinson on Tuesday, Nov. 27, at the Harrisonville Library. Books available for purchase and signatures. The quarterly meeting for the Cass County Historical Society, Inc. will be held in conjunction the book signing. The public is invited and encouraged to attend.

Preschool story time

Preschool storytime at the Harrisonville branch of the Cass County Library is in full swing through Wednesday, Nov. 28. Sessions are held at 11a.m. on both Tuesdays or Wednesdays, and include alphabet fun with stories, songs and crafts.

Hanging of the greens

Area residents are invited to the Faith Baptist Church of Harrisonville for the "Hanging of the Green" service on Sunday, Dec. 2. The event begins at 5 p.m. with a light meal and the making of a tree decoration. At 6:30 p.m., the program includes children helping hang the Christmas green with Bible readings and Christmas hymns. Christmas Homes tour

Harrisonville Business Women of Missouri’s 15th annual Christmas Homes Tour is scheduled for Sunday, Dec. 2, 1-5 p.m.

The 2012 tour features five Harrisonville homes, the Cochran’s residence, a spacious contemporary home, at 1103 Lauren Lane; the VanCleave Mediterranean style residence, 400 S. Halsey Ave.; the Waushesock custom traditional home, 24200 E. Orient Cemetery Road; the Jackson’s modern log cabin at 27817 S. State Route 7 and the White residence, a historic Cassel Place 1852, 300 W. Wall. Tickets are $10 and may be purchased at the Pleasant Hill Times, 126 First St., Pleasant Hill, and Stafford & Stafford Insurance, 801 S. Commercial St., Harrisonville. Tickets may also be purchased at any of the homes on the day of the tour. Proceeds from this annual event supports the organization’s general budget which includes Hope Haven, Cass County’s shelter for abused women and their children; the annual spaghetti dinner and dance for the Cass County special population and other administrative and community expenses. “Merry Christmas Stories,” a family program, will be held at the Harrisonville Library Monday, Dec. 3, from 6-7 p.m. Get comfty, enjoy hot cider, and listen to library staff read classic and timeless Christmas stories around the tree.

Teen craft night

Teens are invited at the Harrisonville Library 3:30-5 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 6, to make Christmas crafts. Teens will make corner bookmarks and T-Shirt tote bags. Please bring an old T-shirt for the craft.

NARFE meeting

The National Active and Retired Federal Employees Association, Chapter 1012, will hold a luncheon meeting at 11 a.m., Friday, Dec. 7, in Holmes Hall, Foxwood Springs Living Center, 1500 W. Foxwood Dr., Raymore. The business meeting will begin at 11 a.m. Lunch and the program will follow at noon. Nancy Griffin and Marysia Bojanski-Moore will entertain with holiday music. Gun and knife show

The Adrian Optimist Gun and Knife Show, sponsored by the Adreian Optomist Club, will be 5-9 p.m. Friday, Dec. 7; 8 a.m.-6 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 8; and 9 a.m.-3 p.m.Sunday, Dec. 9. Admission is $5 per day. Childen under age 10 are free. For more information, contact Jim Binkley at 816-213-7247.

Musical performance

A benefit for Operation Santa, Antonia Studios will be presenting, “Yes, Virgina.” The show will be at the Belton High Freshman Center on Sunday. Dec. 9 with 4:30 and 7:30 p.m. showings. Santa and Mrs. Claus visit

“A visit with Santa and Mrs. Claus” will be held at the Harrisonville Library 6:30-7:30 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 13. Come do a Christmas craft, listen to Mrs. Santa tell a story, and tell Santa what is on your list.

VFW meeting

The VFW Post 4409 Harrisonville invites all members to attend their monthly meeting held the third Monday at 7 p.m. at the Post Headquarters, 1804 N. Commercial. The Harrisonville branch of the Cass County Library is hosting a Writer’s Club that meets the second and fourth Wednesdays of each month at 6 p.m. Participants will have the opportunity to meet with other writers, share writing tips, practice with writing prompts, critique other people’s work, and more. Coffee and tea provided.

Alcoholics Anonymous meet at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday and Thursdays at Church of the Nazerene, 2305 E. South St., Harrisonville. Meetings are closed and nonsmoking.
