Filing for Belton mayor, police chief election nears
Candidate filing for several Belton elected positions, including the mayoral office, will open Tuesday, Dec. 11.
Belton mayor Jimmy Odom, 57, plans to submit his resignation in early January after he is sworn into office as Cass County’s Associate Commissioner for the northern area of the county.
Odom has served as mayor for the past seven years. He previously served as an alderman for two years.
Candidates for mayor must have been a resident of the city for two years preceding election and a qualified voter.
Filing is also open for the Chief of Police position and four city council seats for Wards 1-4. The mayor and police chief seats are open for a full term of four years. The city council seats are for a full term of three years.
Interested individuals may file through 5 p.m. Jan. 15, 2013.
Candidates must also not be delinquent or have unpaid city taxes/municipal user fees or state taxes at the close of filing.
