December 7, 2012

Jake Zink, seventh grade student at Belton’s Yeokum Middle School, spelled his way to the top at the annual Belton School District Spelling Bee held Nov. 8 at Mill Creek Upper Elementary School in the media center prior to the Belton Board of Education meeting.

The bee featured the district’s top spellers, who earned the opportunity to compete at the district level by winning spelling bees at their schools.

Building representatives included: Yeokum, eighth grade – Lucia Hinojos, McKenzie Whetzel, Cynthia Reed and Haley Wells; Yeokum, seventh grade – Katrina Barker, Aidan Freeman, Jake Zink and Margiz Agayev; Mill Creek, sixth grade – Sarah Coupland, Sarah Kimsey, Dalton Schoenberg and Tyler Matthews; Mill Creek, fifth grade – Brendan Thompson, Cody Langer, Anar Agayer and Erica Deardorff; Cambridge – Diana Cortinas; Gladden – Kennedy Moss; Hillcrest – Rebecca Eagleton; Kentucky Trail – Daniel Carlock; and Scott – Neiko Anderson.

Zink will go on to compete in the Cass County Spelling Bee at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, March 6, 2013 in the Raymore-Peculiar District Office.
