The Sherwood wrestling team started out their season on a good note, winning their own Sherwood Dual Tournament Dec. 1.</p><p>&#x201C;For our first match of the year, I was really pleased with the way the kids wrestled,&#x201D; Sherwood head coach Jim Gurney said. &#x201C;Of course, we saw lots of things we can improve on, but it&#x2019;s early and we&#x2019;ll get those things fixed.&#x201D;</p><p>Nine schools competed in the event and Sherwood won all five of its duals for the victory. </p><p>Sherwood defeated Lone Jack 68-12, took down Pembroke Hill 62-12, beat South Holt 66-12, defeated El Dorado Springs 42-36 and beat Wentworth Military Academy 48-28. </p><p>Several Marksmen also went undefeated during the tournament, including Collin Atkinson (132 pounds), Alex Vestal (152), Hunter Davis (160), Curtis Quick (170) and Landon Howard (220).</p><p>&#x201C;I was just so impressed with the overall team intensity and enthusiasm,&#x201D; Gurney said. &#x201C;We had some freshmen and first-year wrestlers really come up big when we needed them. Now, we just have to build on this momentum and continue to improve every time we step on the mat.&#x201D;
