Whiskers and Tails fundraiser

A Peculiar non-profit, Whiskers and Tails, will be hosting a “The 12 Paws of Christmas” fundraiser Friday, Dec. 14 and Saturday, Dec. 15. The event will be held from 10 a.m.-6 p.m. at 169 W. Broadway, Peculiar. The goal is to raise $5,000 to meet the needs of the organization’s families and animals for the holidays and throughout the winter months. The fundraiser will offer both brand new and gently-used items, including clothing, backpacks, knick-knacks, home and bathroom decorating items, movies, games and puzzles, available.

Christmas ball

The Midnight Blue Orchestra will performing a Christmas Ball 7-10 p.m. Friday, Dec. 14, at the Turners German-American Hall, 512 Bong Ave., Belton. Cost is $5/person. Food and beverages available for purchase.

Kantorei Christmas

St. Mary Magdalene Episcopal Church, 16808 Holmes Rd., Loch Lloyd, will be presenting an “Kantorei Christmas: Angels Did Say,” an eclectic Christmas program including three pastiches on the Christmas story. "Of Mary" will feature a scorching Renaissance Polish setting of Beata Es Virgo Maria by Zielienski as well as R. Douglas Helvering’s evocative Ave Maria. "Of the Angels" will feature a world premiere by Helvering entitled All My Heart this Night Rejoices. "Of the Birth" will include ancient and modern settings of the Hodie Christus Natus Est text as well as Serenity: O Magnum Mysterium by Norwegian composer Ola Gjeilo featuring our very own Joanna Metsker on Violin. The audience will also be introduced to Gjeilo’s seven brand new arrangements of many of our most popular Christmas carols including Away in a Manger and The First Noel. The performance will be 3 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 16. Tickets are available online at www.kantoreikc.org/tickets.

VFW meeting

The VFW Post 4409 Harrisonville invites all members to attend their monthly meeting held the third Monday at 7 p.m. at the Post Headquarters, 1804 N. Commercial. Hartzler open house

Congresswoman Vicky Hartzler is hosting an open house Tuesday, Dec. 18 from 2-3 p.m. at her Harrisonville headquarters, 1909 N. Commercial. Guests will have the opportunity to tour the Fourth Congressional District office and meet with staff members Shaelyn McClanahan and Kathleen Midgett. Refreshments will be served. Women health clinics

The Women’s Health Services Belton Clinic, 119 Congress St., Belton, will be held Dec. 19, Dec. 20, Dec. 31, Jan. 3, Jan. 8, Jan. 16, Jan. 17, Jan. 22 and Jan. 30. The Harrisonville Clinic, 200 N. Oakland, will be open Jan. 9 and Jan. 23.

Participants must call for an appointment and cancellations should be made at least 24 hours in advance. Services include comprehensive well woman exams including clinical breast exam, pelvic, Pap smear, HIV and STD testing and treatment, pregnancy testing, reproductive and contraceptive counseling.

Trapper clinic

The Missouri Hunting Heritage Federation will be offering a trapper education clinic Jan. 12-13 at the VFW Post 3118, 1701 Country Club Dr., Pleasant Hill. The clinic is open to all ages and participants will be able to receive cable restraint certification as well as skinning and live demostrations. A $20 refundable registration fee is required to reserve a spot in the clinic. Instruction takes place from 8 a.m.-12 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 12. Meal provided. Writer’s club

The Harrisonville branch of the Cass County Library is hosting a Writer’s Club that meets the second and fourth Wednesdays of each month at 6 p.m. Participants will have the opportunity to meet with other writers, share writing tips, practice with writing prompts, critique other people’s work, and more. Coffee and tea provided.
