It was senior night for the Raymore-Peculiar girls’ swim team against two tough competitors Dec. 18 at the Harrisonville Community Center.
The Panthers lost the meet, as Lee’s Summit North defeated Raymore-Peculiar 223-71 and Blue Springs South won 179-112, but the team still celebrated some success.
“Senior night was a great celebration of our seniors and the girls did a great job against some amazing competition,” Raymore-Peculiar head coach Matt Majors said. “Lastashia May, Alexis Nelson, Rachel Fisk and Jordyn Ferro (all seniors) completed the ironman, in which the girls participated in every event of the meet, a great accomplishment.”
Other Panther seniors include Mackenzie Taylor, Corrina DeMayo, Shelby Ligason and Natasha Smith.
Raymore-Peculiar had several top five finishes at the meet, most coming from seniors. Underclassman Maddi Brusick tied for first in the 50-yard freestyle with a time of 26.95 seconds. She also placed second in the 100-yard freestyle with a time of 59.3.
Fisk finished fourth in the 100-yard butterfly with a time of 1 minute, 20.59 seconds. Nelson took fourth in the 100-yard breaststroke with a time of 1:27.11 and fifth in the 200-yard freestyle with a time of 2:31.3. DeMayo placed fifth in the 50-yard freestyle with a time of 31.55. Smith finished fifth in the 100-yard breaststroke with a time of 1:30.69.
The 400-yard freestyle relay team of Ferro, Fisk, McBride and Sierra Page took fourth with a time of 4:44.78 and the 200-yard freestyle relay team of Nelson, Page, Rachel Edington and Shaylen Boze finished fifth with a time of 2:09.91.
“We had several personal best times which is something I push all the girls to achieve every time they step up in the water,” Majors said. “I couldn’t be more proud of them for a great swim.”
