Pleasant Hill took fourth place out of 12 teams with a team score of 323.5 points in the Missouri River Valley Conference wrestling tournament held Jan. 10-12 at Richmond. Oak Grove earned first place with 385.5 points, followed by Odessa in second with 366 points and Excelsior Springs in third with 327.5 points.

“The finals on Saturday capped off a three-day run of competition for us,” Pleasant Hill head coach Jeff Wyatt said. “I like having our schedule have a three-day series so the guys can get a feel for making weight and competing three days in a row, just like state. However, it is a lot of late nights, early mornings and tough competition, but the guys competed very well.”

The Roosters were led in the tournament by Delainey Taala at 285 pounds with a championship title, winning the first place match with a 9-5 decision over Carrollton’s Gage Boggs. Olen Brattin (126) took second place, losing the championship match by a 7-2 decision to Oak Grove’s Tyler Brown. Brady Franklin (145) also finished second, losing the title match by a 16-1 technical fall to Oak Grove’s Logan Cairer.

Cole Sullivan (132) took third place, winning that match by a 5-2 decision over Excelsior Springs’ AJ Edwards. Kolin Rogers (160) also placed third, with a pin over Harrisonville’s Aaron Rampani in 2 minutes, 58 seconds. Jacob Randle (182) placed third with a 8-2 decision over Harrisonville’s Austin Moreland. Mason Hertzog (170) took fourth, losing the third place match by fall to Odessa’s Levi Turley in 2:22. Cole Reeves (195) finished sixth, losing the fifth place match by injury default to Lexington’s Matthew Schneader.

Kaler Selvin placed seventh, winning that match by pin over Lafayette County’s Dylan Whan in 2:27. Dylan Lewis (138) also took seventh, with a win by pin over Excelsior Springs’ Garrett Fortuna in 2:07. Colbi Ford (152) earned seventh with a win by fall over Knob Noster’s Logan Lawber in 2:03 and Dillion Davis (220) took seventh with a win by pin over Holden’s Ryan Stout in 4:18. Brandon Bray (113) placed eighth, losing the seventh place match by fall to Lafayette County’s Josh Gilkey in 2:55.

“Overall, it was a quality team finish considering that we placed eighth here a year ago,” Wyatt said.

Harrisonville finished ninth with a team score of 208 points.

The Wildcats were led by Brance Neal (152) with a third place finish. Neal won by a 7-3 decision over Oak Grove’s Skyler Jackson in the third place match. Rampani (160) and Austin Moreland (182) both placed fourth with losses in the third place matches to Pleasant Hill grapplers. Joe Schlechter (285) finished fourth with a injury default to Grain Valley’s Cody Paxton.

Nick Kreimeyer (170) took fifth, winning that match by pin over Grain Valley’s Shelby Mavis-Watts in 2:04. James Pesek (220) also finished fifth with a 1-0 decision victory over Excelsior Springs’ Mark Ingraham. Kyle Hix finished sixth with a loss by fall to Holden’s Andrew Gearhart in 2:12.
