Belton takes fourth at dual tourney
Belton took fourth in the Bill Skillman Duals held Jan. 19 at Kearney, a tournament with numerous ranked teams in Missouri competing.
The Pirates started the tournament as the No. 4 seed and battled through five duals to lose a close dual against Warrensburg in the third place match.
Clay Stine, 132 pounds, beat No. 2 ranked Blake Clevenger of Kearney. The only duals the Pirates lost were to teams ranked in the top eight in Class 3 in Missouri.
The Pirates defeated conference rival Winnetonka 45-21 in the dual held Jan. 22.
Belton picked up forfeits at 145, 106, 113, 132 and 138 pounds.
The Pirates also won four other matches. Zuberi Muwwakkil (152) won by a 3-1 decision over Maurice Bogart and Grant Whitney (195) won by a 4-2 decision over Jacob Walker.
Brian Sanders (120) won by pin over Ian Benoit in 3:28 minutes and Robbi Jones (126) won by a 5-2 decision over Dakota Mills.
Brandon McKinney (160) lost a 6-1 decision to Bryan Baker and Hunter Collins (170) was pinned by Markel Fluker in 56 seconds. John Hiltner (182) was pinned by Casey Bryan in 1:58, Andruw Goin (220) lost a 7-3 decision to Justin Whitaker and Austin Holloway lost a 3-2 decision to Brandon Zoellers.
