Cass Regional Medical Center will host a free health screening 9-11 a.m. Friday, Jan. 25, at Commerce Bank in Harrisonville, 1301 Locust St. Take advantage of free blood pressure, blood oxygen and blood sugar screenings, and obtain a free total lipid profile, which measures total cholesterol, HDL, LDL, and triglycerides. For the most accurate results, screening participants are asked to fast for at least 12 hours prior to the screening and take medications as ususal (with water only). Ladies night out and health expo
The Harrisonville Chamber of Commerce and Cass Regional Medical Center will be hosting a Ladies Night Out 6-9 p.m. Friday, Jan. 25 at Mill-Walk Mall. Area vendors and the staff of Cass Regional Medical Center’s Cardiac Rehabilitation Department will be available for an evening of shopping and learning more about caring for your health. Free giveaways as well as blood pressure, heart rate, and blood oxygen screenings will be available, and guests can also register to win great door prizes. Teen bookbinding class
The Harrisonville library will be hosting a free bookbinding course for teens at 3:30 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 24. Students will be creating notebooks. All materials are being provided by the library.

Spaghetti dinner
The Peculiar Lions Club is sponsoring a spaghetti lunch from 11 a.m.-1 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 26, at the Lions Club building to raise money for the family of 4-year-old Kash Emerson who died suddenly Jan. 1. Cost is $5 for adults, $2 for children 12-17 years old; and free for children under the age of 11.

Goose hunting clinic
The Missouri Hunting Heritage Federation, the Cass County Chapter of Ducks Unlimited, and the Missouri Department of Conservation, is offering a goose hunting clinic for youth ages 11-19. The clinic includes a hunter education class, live-fire session and a mentored goose hunt. The clinic is free but space is limited. The classroom portion held at the training room of the Cass County Sheriff’s Office goes from 6-9:30 p.m. Friday Jan 25, 8 a.m.-3 p.m.Saturday, Jan. 26, followed by a live-fire session. On Sunday, Jan. 27, the mentored hunt will take place.
A $20 refundable registration fee is required to reserve a spot in the clinic. Participants must be accompanied by an adult chaperone throughout the clinic. For questions about the course or to register, call Phil Needham at 816-809-6259.

The Disabled American Veterans Chapter No. 67 Service Officer of Butler will be available from 9 a.m.-4 p.m. Monday, Jan. 28, at the Cass County Public Library, 400 E. Girl Scout recruitment
The Girl Scout Council of northeast Kansas and northwest Missouri is hosting a free Recruiting & Swim event 6-8 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 27, at the Belton Community Center, 16400 N. Mullen Road. Girls in kindergarten through high school in the Raymore, Peculiar and Pleasant Hill areas who are interested in Girl Scouts are encouraged to attend. Registration is at 5 p.m. at the Community Center or with a troop leader prior to the event. A parent or guardian must be present to register their daughter at the event and are required to stay during the event.

Belton historical society meeting
The Belton Historical Society will hold its quarterly meeting at 2:30 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 27 in the old City Hall building, 512 Main St. The program will be presented by Dr. Linda Kyser, who has written a six-volume set of books about Cass County rural schools. Refreshments will be served at the end of the meeting, and the public is invited to attend.X

The Midway FFA Chapter will be hosting an Agriculture/Business Expo from 6-8 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 30, in the Midway Cafeteria.

Food drive
The Harrisonville High School Life Skills class is sponsoring a “Souper” Bowl drive to benefit the local food pantry. Through Friday, Feb. 1, students will be collecting cans of soup. Members of the community who would like to donate can drop off items during school hours (7:30 a.m.-3:00 p.m.). Collection boxes are located outside the main office at HHS. When dropping off items, donors can choose to vote for their favorite division – the AFC or NFC by placing the cans in the designated boxes.
All donations will be given to the Shepherd’s Staff Food Pantry.

NARFE meeting
The National Active and Retired Federal Employees Association (NARFE), Chapter 1012, will hold a luncheon meeting at 11 a.m., Friday, Feb.1, in Holmes Hall, Foxwood Springs Living Center, 1500 W. Foxwood Dr., in Raymore. The business meeting will begin at 11 a.m. Lunch and the program will follow at noon. Carol Bohl, retired Executive Director Cass County Historical Society, will speak on the Border Wars between Missouri and Kansas during the Civil War.

Rehab Open house
Cass Regional Medical Center will host a rehabilitation services open house 4-7 p.m. Tuesday, February 5, at Cass Regional, 2800 E. Rock Haven Rd., Harrisonville. Take advantage of free blood pressure, heart rate, and blood oxygen screenings, and sign up for door prizes. For a $6 fee, you may also have your blood drawn for an A1C test. (The A1C measures an average blood sugar reading for the previous three months. You do not need to fast to have an A1C test.) Clinical professionals from Cardiac and Pulmonary Rehabilitation; Physical, Occupational and Speech Therapy; Diabetes Education and Sleep Services will provide educational materials and will also be available to answer your questions. Tax appointments
AARP volunteers will be at the Belton library beginning Monday, Feb. 4 and the Harrisonville library Tuesday, Feb. 5, to assist with federal tax returns and the Missouri rent credits throughout the tax season. Appointments must be made by calling the respective libraries. Walk-ins will not be served unless an opening is available. This is a free service for income levels under $60,000. No age limitations.

Chocolate-making class
Nutrition Specialist Susan Mills-Gray will teach a hands-on cooking class from 6:30-9 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 7, at the MU Extension Center, 201 W. Wall St., Harrisonville, to share about how dark chocolate can improve your health. You will also learn how to shop for the best quality and healthiest chocolate, as well as prepare delicious dark chocolate recipes. Preregistration is required and the cost is $17 per person. Raymore historical society meeting
The Raymore Historical Society will meet at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 12, in the lower level of the Cullen Funeral Home, 612 W. Foxwood Dr. Raymore. The group meets the second Tuesday of each month, weather permitting. The February meeting will feature Beverly Kennedy giving a program on Gloria Roupe - Shooter Extraordinaire. Girls leadership training
The Harrisonville Business Women will host a Girls Leadership Camp for junior and seniors 8 a.m.-3 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 27 at the First Christian Church in Harrisonville.
The event is provided free of charge and the program includes interactive workshops on leadership and self improvement. Professional women will present information on the following topics: Personal Finance, Networking and Presentation, Safety Awareness, Business Etiquette and Creating Balance to Accomplish a Healthy Life. Any junior or senior girl who attends one of the Cass County schools or is home schooled is eligible to attend the camp. Lunch and snacks throughout the day are provided.
