The father accused of causing the death of his 5-month-old Peculiar daughter in 2010 was sentenced to life in prison without the possibilty of parole by a Cass County judge Jan. 28.

A jury determined Moreno A. Salinas, 22, of Lake Winnebago, guilty of first degree murder Dec. 14, after he abused the infant, Avee Salinas Hunter, over a period of weeks in April 2010, causing the unexplained seizures and multiple brain injuries to his daughter, causing her death.

Salinas, along with his cousin, Allen T. Green, 22, of Kansas City, who also faces a first-degree murder trial in the same case in the spring, were both charged after Cass County Sheriff’s Office detectives were contacted by Children’s Mercy Hospital on behalf of the infant’s life-threatening injuries that were of a suspicious nature.

According to court documents, Green told investigators that Salinas planned to murder his daughter before Easter that year.

Green has been charged with assault and is awaiting trial set for Tues., March 26.
