Gun and knife show

Groundhog Day breakfast
The Order of the Eastern Star will be hosting a Ground “Hog” Day breakfast 7:30-10:30 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 2 at the Harrisonville Masonic Lodge, 405 N. Independence. Sausage and pancakes will be served. Cost is $5 for adults and $3 for children ages 5-10.

Rehab open house
Cass Regional Medical Center will host a rehabilitation services open house 4-7 p.m. Tuesday, February 5, at Cass Regional, 2800 E. Rock Haven Rd., Harrisonville. Take advantage of free blood pressure, heart rate, and blood oxygen screenings, and sign up for door prizes. For a $6 fee, you may also have your blood drawn for an A1C test. (The A1C measures an average blood sugar reading for the previous three months. You do not need to fast to have an A1C test.) Clinical professionals from Cardiac and Pulmonary Rehabilitation; Physical, Occupational and Speech Therapy; Diabetes Education and Sleep Services will provide educational materials and will also be available to answer your questions. Tax appointments
AARP volunteers will be at the Belton library beginning Monday, Feb. 4 and the Harrisonville library Tuesday, Feb. 5, to assist with federal tax returns and the Missouri rent credits throughout the tax season. Appointments must be made by calling the respective libraries. Walk-ins will not be served unless an opening is available. This is a free service for income levels under $60,000. No age limitations.

American Legion meeting
The Hurly Lee Spicer American Legion Post 42 meets regularly at 6:30 p.m. on the first Monday of the month at Harrisonville at 303 E. Pearl Street. The next regular meeting will be Feb. 4. For more information, call Larry Truman at 816-518-3264.

Infant massage class
The Archie Parents as Teachers program will be offering a infant massage class for all Archie residents at 4 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 5. The class will be held at the Archie School in the music room. For more information, call 816-293-5312 Ext. 322 or e-mail kreynolds@archie.k12.mo.us. Reservations are not required, but appreciated. The class is for babies who are not yet crawling. Bring a soft blanket or towel. Babies under 10 weeks may need a bed pillow vs. the floor to rest comfortably on for the hour. The classroom is kept very warm for the comfort of the babies. Parents may want to dress accordingly.

Chocolate-making class
Nutrition Specialist Susan Mills-Gray will teach a hands-on cooking class from 6:30-9 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 7, at the MU Extension Center, 201 W. Wall St., Harrisonville, to share about how dark chocolate can improve your health. You will also learn how to shop for the best quality and healthiest chocolate, as well as prepare dark chocolate recipes. Preregistration is required and the cost is $17 per person. Sweetheart banquet
The Garden City Training Center and New Covenant Fellowship will be hosting their annual Sweetheart Banquet Saturday, Feb. 9. Tickets are $25 single, $40 couple. society meeting
The Raymore Historical Society will meet at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 12, in the lower level of the Cullen Funeral Home, 612 W. Foxwood Dr. Raymore. The group meets the second Tuesday of each month, weather permitting. The February meeting will feature Beverly Kennedy giving a program on Gloria Roupe - Shooter Extraordinaire. The museum is ADA accessible.

Princess Ball
The Harrisonville Parks and Recreation department will be hosting a father-daughter Princess Ball 6:30-9 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 16, at the Harrisonville Community Center, for a night full of dancing and fun. The ball is designed for girls ages 5-18 and the father figure in their life. The cost for the male guardian is $15 and each daughter is $5. Registration deadline is Thursday, Feb. 14. There will be an on-site photographer, flowers for sale and snacks provided.

VFW meeting
The VFW Post 4409 Harrisonville invites all members to attend their monthly meeting held at 7 p.m. on the third Monday at the Post Headquarters, 1804 N. Commercial.
