An Independence business owner died at an area hospital after a disturbance in the parking lot of a Belton bar.
Police were called to investigate an assault at Frankie and Johnny’s Pub and Grill, located in the 17200 block of South Interstate 49, along the East Outer Road, in Belton, shortly after 1 a.m. Feb. 3.
The bar is near the intersection of Missouri Highway 58.
In route to the scene, police said that they noticed a vehicle leaving the parking lot, heading northbound on the outer road.
After being advised that the alleged perpetrator had left the parking lot with another individual, officers stopped the vehicle, and found the suspect, 33-year-old Brad M. Richardson, of Independence, suffering from a medical emergency in the backseat.
An ambulance was called to the scene, and paramedics transported Richardson to Belton Regional Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead a short time later, police said.
The cause of death is still under investigation, and police are awaiting autopsy results.
Richardson owns Independence Tow in eastern Jackson County.
Police said two males were injured in the assault with a beer bottle. The victims received medical attention at the hospital and were released.
