Ester Naydine Franklin

Ester Naydine (Johnson) Franklin, 70, died Sunday, Feb. 3, 2013, at Crown Care Center in Harrisonville. She was the daughter of Robert Phillip and Amanda (Hindman) Johnson.

Cremation has been accorded and a there was a memorial service Feb. 9 at Pleasant Hill United Methodist Church, Pleasant Hill, with Rev. Carl Knapp officiating. Inurnment will be later.

Aubrey B. Carpenter

Aug. 20, 1941 - Feb. 4, 2013

Aubrey B. “Benny” Carpenter, 71, of Garden City, died Monday, Feb. 4, 2013, at Benchmark Healthcare of Harrisonville.

Benny was born Aug. 20, 1941, in Dallas, Texas, the son of Aubrey B. and Opal Jewell (Adams) Carpenter. He grew up in Dallas and moved to Garden City in 1986. Benny married Shirley Jean Graham on Oct. 6, 1981. He worked as a union carpenter for Dasta Construction Company and Walton Construction Company in Kansas City before retiring in 2003. He was a member of Carpenters Local #777 in Harrisonville.

Benny was preceded in death by his parents, one sister and one brother. He is survived by his wife, Shirley, of the home; two sons, Aubrey Eugene Carpenter, Phoenix, Ariz., and Wayne Patrick Carpenter, Welch, Okla.; two sisters, Gracie Holt, Allen, Okla., and Eva Carrigo, Quannah, Texas; grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

Memorial services were Feb. 9 at Atkinson Funeral Home in Harrisonville. (Cremation).

Gloria Lea Dixon

June 15, 1925 - Feb. 5, 2013

Gloria Lea Dixon, 87, of Harrisonville, died Tuesday, Feb. 5, 2013, at her home.

Gloria is survived by two daughters; eight grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; a sister, Dorothy McGehee; other relatives and friends.

Funeral services were in Liberal, Kan., with burial in Liberal City Cemetery.

Lawrence Engelbrecht

Sept. 18, 1929 - Feb. 5, 2013

Lawrence Engelbrecht, 83, of Harrisonville, died Tuesday, Feb. 5, 2013. Engelbrecht was born Sept. 18, 1929, in Windsor to Adam Friedrich and Barbara Louise Ahlers Engelbrecht.

Lawrence was a U.S. Army Veteran of the Korean War and retired from his business, Cass County Ceramics. He married Marilynn (Cruzan) of Kansas City on Sept. 30, 1950.

Lawrence was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, one sister and a son-in-law. He is survived by his wife Marilynn of Harrisonville, daughter Cheryl Edwards (Dale) of Beloit, Wis., daughter Deborah Engelbrecht of Nevada, son Dwayne Engelbrecht of Kansas City, daughter Janette Swenson (Jim) of Belmond, Iowa, daughter Jennifer Bolduc (Richard) of St. Peters, 10 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

Funeral services were Feb. 11 at Our Savior Lutheran Church in Harrisonville. Visitation was at the church prior to service. Graveside services with military honors were at Floral Hills East in Lee’s Summit, following the luncheon at church.

Bertie Jane Jones

Bertie Jane (Foster) Jones, 81, died Tuesday, Feb. 5, 2013, at Wilshire at Lakewood in Lee’s Summit. She was the daughter of Forest C. and Eva (Richardson) Foster.

Graveside service and interment were Feb. 8 at Pleasant Hill Cemetery with Rev. Kent Deubner of Pleasant Hill First Christian Church officiating. There was no visitation.

M. Adeline Clark

April 4, 1929 - Feb. 7, 2013

M. Adeline Clark, 83, of Lee’s Summit, died Thursday, Feb. 7, 2013, at Wilshire at Lakewood.

Adeline was born April 4, 1929, in Clinton, Iowa. Her parents were Russell White and Mary Pleyer White. She was preceded in death by one brother, David White, and husband Robert Clark.

She graduated from Salisbury High School and received a B.S. Degree in Education from Kirksville Teachers College. Adeline was an elementary teacher for many years, first in Parkville School District and then later in Kansas City Missouri School District.

After retiring, she enjoyed spending more time reading, gardening, traveling, square dancing, cooking and being with her family.

Adeline will be extremely missed by her family. She is survived by their children, Linda Clark of Lee’s Summit; Marcia Clark of Olathe, Kan.; Laura Lehenbauer and husband Gregg of Liberty; Nancy Eckels and husband Dan, of Fayetteville, Ark.; six grandchildren Kara, Jon, and Daniel Lehenbauer, and Clark, Samantha, and Zach Eckels.

Funeral services were Feb. 9 at 3 p.m. at Langsford Funeral Home in Lee’s Summit. Visitation was one hour prior. Burial was in Raymore Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Crossroads Hospice or Parkinson’s Foundation.

Elton James Haralson

March 2, 1924 - Feb. 7, 2013

Elton James Haralson, 88, of Harrisonville, formerly of Holden and Pleasant Hill, died Thursday Feb. 7, 2013, at Crown Care Center in Harrisonville.

Jim was a U.S. Army WWII Veteran.

Funeral services were Feb. 12 at New Life Fellowship Baptist Church in Holden. Interment in Pleasant Hill Cemetery with full military honors by the U.S. Army and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post #3118 Honor Guard.

Dayle Price Lindsey

Aug. 8, 1938 - Feb. 7, 2013

Dayle Price Lindsey, 74, of Harrisonville, died Thursday, Feb. 7, 2013, at his home.

Dayle was born Aug. 8, 1938, in Springfield, the son of Jordan and Gracia Lorene (Day) Lindsey. He lived in Cabool before moving to Harrisonville in 1953. He was a 1956 graduate of Harrisonville High School and had attended Westminster College in Fulton. Dayle was a graduate of Graduate School of Banking at University of Wisconsin. He was a U.S. Air Force veteran. Dayle worked for Allen Bank and Trust Co. in Harrisonville from 1959 until his retirement in 2009 and had served as president of the bank for a number of years. He was a member and past president of Harrisonville Kiwanis Club; member and past president of Harrisonville Chamber of Commerce; member and past Chaplain of Cass County Elks Lodge 2791; member of St. Peter’s Episcopal Church; member of Albert Pike Masonic Lodge #219 in Kansas City; member of Ararat Shrine, Kansas City, and Cass County Shrine Club. He was also a member of Missouri Bankers Association and Independent Bankers Association.

Dayle was preceded in death by his parents, one brother, Jordan D. Lindsey, his first wife, Laurie S. (Millard) Lindsey on Feb. 9, 1971, and his second wife, Janet C. (Harter) Lindsey on Aug. 29, 1997. He is survived by one son, Jordan Ross Lindsey, Lone Jack; one daughter, Julie Coburn and husband, Randy, Harrisonville; one sister, Anna Ledbetter, Waterloo, Ontario, Canada, and one grandson, Jesse Coburn.

Funeral services were Feb. 13 at Atkinson Funeral Home in Harrisonville. Burial was in Orient Cemetery, Harrisonville. Memorial contributions may be made to Cass County Elks Lodge 2791 or St. Peter’s Episcopal Church.

Dorothy Rae Horner, 86, of Butler, died Friday, Feb. 8, 2013, at Villa Ventura Retirement Community in Kansas City.

Dorothy was born to Raymond and Verona Osborn. She graduated from Harrisonville High School and married Lovel Horner.

Gene Allen McCalmon

Gene Allen McCalmon, 86, of Garden City, formerly of Blairstown, died Friday, Feb. 8, 2013, at Golden Valley Memorial Hospital, Clinton.

Gene was an Army veteran of WWII and was Mayor of Blairstown for several years.

Funeral services were Feb. 12 at Dickey Funeral Home, Garden City, with burial in Blairstown Cemetery, Blairstown.

Earl Victor Ervin

Jan. 5, 1928 - Feb. 9, 2013

Earl Victor Ervin, 85, of Warrensburg, formerly of Gunn City and Riverside, died Saturday, Feb. 9, 2013, at Missouri Veterans Home, Warrensburg.

He was a U. S. Army WWII veteran, where he earned a Bronze Star. He also had served in the U.S. Navy prior to his service in the Army.

Funeral services will be at 3 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 17, at the funeral home. Cremation will be accorded following the service. Inurnment will be in Missouri Veterans Cemetery with full military honors at a later date.

Lois Lucille Cumpton

Feb. 2, 1940 - Feb. 12, 2013

Lois Lucille Cumpton, 73, of Butler, died Tuesday, Feb. 12, 2013, at Kansas City Hospice House in Kansas City. Lois was born in El Dorado Springs, the daughter of Jess and Julia Terry.

Funeral services will be at 11:30 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 16, at Atkinson Funeral Home in Adrian, with visitation 10-11:30 a.m. Burial will be in Oak Hill Cemetery in Butler.
