3 teens seriously injured in weekend accident

Three Cass County teens were seriously injured in a one-vehicle accident Sunday night near Gunn City.

The accident occurred at 8:49 p.m. on northbound Old Drum Road less than a half mile south of 251st Street when their vehicle, a 1991 Honda Accord, lost control and flipped over.

The driver, Tyler Schwab, 18, of Harrisonville, and his two passengers, were all seriously injured in the accident.

Christian Hughes, 17, of Pleasant Hill, and Dalton Cusick, 15, of Garden City, were transported by air to Research Main Hospital.

Schwab was transported by ambulance to St. Luke’s East Hospital on the Plaza for his injuries.

None of the occupants were wearing seatbelts, according to a Missouri State Highway Patrol report.

The highway patrol is investigating whether speed or alcohol were factors in the cause of the accident.

The Cass County Sheriff’s Office assisted with the investigation.
