A Cass County teen died early Friday morning in a one-car crash in rural Peculiar.
The incident occurred as 19-year-old Jacob Mills of Peculiar was traveling north on Route J near 195th Street in a 2005 Chevrolet 2500 pickup truck when he lost control of his vehicle due to icy road conditions.
The crash occurred at approximately 1:15 a.m.
The truck crossed the center lane and traveled off the left side of the roadway. The vehicle struck a culvert and then became airborne and overturned.
Mills, who was not wearing a seatbelt, was ejected from the vehicle.
The Missouri Highway Patrol reported that Mills was driving too fast for conditions.
The victim was pronounced dead by the Jackson County Medical Examiner.
Raymore Police and the Cass County Sheriff’s Office assisted in the investigation.
Mills was a 2011 Raymore-Peculiar High School Academy graduate.
