Sherwood junior Shelby Crusha and sophomore Brandon Lindsey were named the February scholar-athletes of the month.
Crusha participated on the girls’ basketball team and the softball team, which won the Crossroads Conference championship.
Her softball post-season honors included first team all-conference, first team all-district, first team all-area and second team all-state.
Crusha also gave the Lady Marksmen their first ever district victory in softball with a game winning walk-off home run.
“Shelby is a very talented athlete,” Sherwood head softball coach and athletic director Scott Calhoun said. “Nobody can match her speed and calmness under pressure. I am also very pleased to say that she does equally great in the classroom and is always upbeat.”
In only his second season of boys’ basketball, Lindsey was a regular starter.
Lindsey also played on the football team, ending the season with several awards.
His football coaches claim that his work ethic and talent could get him to the college ranks someday.
He is also a track star and is expected to do great things this upcoming spring.
“Brandon works harder than any kid I have ever coached,” Calhoun said. “At times he will beat himself up over mistakes, but never stops trying. I truly enjoy watching a kid with such an amazing work ethic. He is a very positive role model for the kids and all those around him.”
