April 5 Community Brief

April 5, 2013

Clay Potters Garden Club

Clay Potters Garden Club met March 11 at the home of David and Deb Jensen for our meeting and a “Butterfly House Workshop.” There were 12 members and six guests present for the fun evening. Guests were: Janet Gregg, Linda Floyd (who joined us a new member), Mary Judy, Alice Lenington, Rose Broadway and Stephanie Daring.

Club President Bernie Zeller opened the business meeting by leading in the pledge to the flag. The minutes of the previous meeting were read and approved and a treasurer’s report was given. Bills were presented by Cindy Keesler for printing our new club books for 2013 and convention fees for Bernie Zeller for the upcoming state convention in St. Joseph. Club voted to pay these bills.

The West Central District meeting will be Friday, April 5, in Warrensburg and the state convention will be May 14-16.

Deb Jensen then presented a program on the Monarch butterfly and the Viceroy – the false Monarch. All members and guests were able to build a butterfly house from a kit that David and Deb Jensen had cut out. We followed explicit instructions to get the job done. The couple are members of the Monarch Butterfly Association and maintain butterfly gardens.

Our next meeting will be at 7 p.m. Monday, April 8, at Benchmark Health Care.
