Belton started out the game against Staley March 28 at Belton strong, scoring a goal in the first few minutes of the first period.

Senior forward Ashley Cole gave the Pirates a quick 1-0 lead, but by the end of the game, Staley picked up its offense to capture a 6-1 victory.

“After controlling play for the first 10 minutes, we ended up chasing a talented Staley team for the majority of the game,” Belton head coach David Mannell said.

Cole scored off a cross from senior midfielder Abby Zink to give the Pirates that early lead. But just a few minutes later, the Falcons tied things up with a score from Lauren Sullivan.

Staley kept it up before halftime, with Sullivan putting in two more goals alone and the Falcons led 4-1 going into the second period. Staley shot in two more goals in the second half to clinch the win.

With the loss, Belton moves to 1-1.
