Donald R. Breedlove

Oct. 27 1953 - March 29. 2013

Donald R. Breedlove, 59, died Friday, March 29, 2013, at St. Luke’s East in Lee’s Summit. He was the son of Homer and Pauline Alice (Rayburn) Breedlove.

Cremation was accorded and a Memorial Service for Donald Ray Breedlove will be at 3 p.m. Friday, April 19, at Wallace Funeral Home in Pleasant Hill.

Joseph Harry Moore

March 7, 1938 - April 6, 2013

Joseph ��Joe” Harry Moore, 75, of Peculiar, died Saturday, April 6, 2013, at Vitas Hospice in Kansas City.

Joe was born March 7, 1938, in Kansas City, the son of Joseph Aaron and Electa Mildred (Griffith) Moore.

He was a 1956 graduate of Grandview High School. He was a U.S. Army veteran, serving for eight years. He married Margey May Prime on Nov. 26, 1957. Joe worked for Safeway Grocery for 37 years and was a proud member of the UFCW Local Union #576. He was a member of Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church in Harrisonville.

Joe loved music and played the trumpet beautifully. He was an outdoorsman and enjoyed hunting, fishing, golfing and camping with the family. He also enjoyed cutting wood and working on vehicles. He loved all sports and especially enjoyed watching football. He was a loving and dedicated family man, husband, father and grandpa and was the best storyteller ever. He loved spending time with all of his family and had nicknames for everyone.

Joe was preceded in death by his parents. He is survived by his wife, Margey, of the home; four daughters, Catherine C. Gregory and husband, David, Conway, Ark., Cindy L. Stock, Peculiar, Joell M. Moore, Lee’s Summit, and Melinda K. Pickens and husband, Daryl, Raymore; two sisters, Sharon Jackson and husband, K. D., Belton, and Jana Burton and husband, Ken, Billings; six grandchildren, Christina, Sarina, Davey Joe, Josh, Samantha and Joelle, and four great-grandchildren, Shawn, Tagen, Addison and Jakey.

Funeral services were April 12 at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church in Harrisonville, with burial in Park Lawn Cemetery in Kansas City. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Grace Hospice, Kansas City.

Rebecca A. Schildknecht

March 7, 1968 - April 7, 2013

Rebecca Ann “Becki” Schildknecht, 45, died, after a brief battle with cancer, Sunday, April 7, 2013, at her home in Warrensburg.

Funeral services for Becki were April 12 at Grover Park Baptist Church, Warrensburg, with Rev. Robert Sisney, officiating.

Cremation will be accorded after service.

Opal Lee Summers

Dec. 2, 1926 - April 8, 2013

Opal Lee Summers, 86, of Harrisonville, died Monday, April 8, 2013, at Golden Years Care Center in Harrisonville.

Opal was born Dec. 2, 1926, in Hatfield, Ark., the daughter of Omer and Lillie Mae (Williams) McCulley. She married Orvan Alford “Al” Summers on Dec. 9, 1944, in Mena, Ark. Opal was an amazing cook and gardener. She would cook dinners for her neighbors and for anyone who needed dinner. She made relish, canned jellies, jams, pickles, made barbecue sauce; she loved to cook and garden. She especially enjoyed spending time with her family and grandchildren.

Opal was preceded in death by her parents, two brothers, Gerald McCulley and Charles McCulley, one sister, Estellene Lamb and her husband, Al, on Feb. 6, 2000. She is survived by two sons, O. Lee Summers and wife, Lois, Mena, Ark., and Duane Summers and wife, Tracy, Harrisonville; four grandchildren, Nikki Fee, Shawna Summers, Jason Summers, Joshua Summers and wife, Jamie; and five great-grandchildren.

Funeral services were April 13 at Atkinson Funeral Home in Harrisonville with burial in Crescent Hill Cemetery in Adrian.

Edna Yohe

Aug. 16, 1914 - April 8, 2013

Edna (Zumalt) Yohe, 98, died in Albuquerque, N.M., Monday, April 8, 2013.

She had lived in Harrisonville and Kansas City until 2010, when she moved to Albuquerque.

Memorial services were April 13 at Atkinson Funeral Home in Harrisonville, with inurnment in Orient Cemetery. (Cremation).

Iona Ann Elliott

Dec. 29, 1939 - April 9, 2013

Iona Ann (Allison) Elliott , 73, was born Dec. 29, 1939, to Nebartus Sproal and LouElla Whiteman Allison in Garden City. She died Tuesday, April 9, 2013.

Iona graduated from Garden City High School in 1957. After graduation, she began working for First National Bank in Kansas City. On Feb. 14, 1958, she married the love of her life, Charles Roger Elliott. To this union four children were born: Jeff, Julie, Jeanie, and Jerry. Iona worked as a secretary in several county government offices, including the County Collector and County Assessor.

Iona was preceded in death by her parents Nebartus (Andy) and LouElla Allison and by an infant brother who died shortly after birth.

Iona is survived by her husband of 55 years Charles of Lee’s Summit; children: Jeff Elliott (Lindy) of Lee’s Summit, Julie Blanchard (Randy) of Houston, Texas, Jeanie Cook (David) of Lee’s Summit, and Jerry Elliott (Pauline) of Lee’s Summit; 13 grandchildren: Ethan, Andrew, and Alec Blanchard, Allison, Abbie, and Ashlyn Cook, Jace and Jesse Elliott, and Amanda Lee, Austin and Alec Breed, and Carson and Camryn Elliott; and one sister Arlene Palmer, Garden City.

May God bless her memory and bring peace and comfort to those who mourn.

Cremation. A Celebration of Life Visitation was April 14 at Dickey Funeral Home in Garden City. Family will have private graveside services at a later date following cremation.

Thelma G. McGlathery, 84, was born Sept. 24, 1928, in Oak Grove and died Tuesday, April 9, 2013. She was the daughter of Elmer Crow and Mary Pearl (Wooley) Bailey.

There was a private family interment at 2 p.m. April 11 at Strasburg Cemetery.

Thelma Lois Brown, 101, of Pleasant Hill, formerly of Kansas City North, died Saturday, April 13, 2013, at Pleasant Hill Health and Rehabilitation Center.

Funeral services were April 17 at the funeral home with visitation until service.

Graveside services and interment were in Fairview Cemetery, Kearney.

Fern Ashby

Aug. 22, 1933 - April 15, 2013

Fern Ashby, 79, of Harrisonville, died Monday, April 15, 2013, at Cass Regional Medical Center in Harrisonville.

Fern was born Aug. 22, 1933, in Kansas City, the daughter of James Melvin and Gladys Pauline (Long) Anders. She lived in Jackson County until 1964 when she moved to Peculiar. She moved to Harrisonville in 1984. Fern had worked at Dean Marble in Peculiar, as a marble fabricator for 10 years. She married James Ashby on Nov. 3, 1984, in Nevada. She loved spending time with her family.

Fern is survived by her husband, Jim, of the home; two sons, Lance Hash and wife, Julie, St. Charles, and Jason Austin and wife, Mary, Peculiar; two daughters, Stephanie Jones and husband, Tom, Cleveland, and Karen Hoskins, Harrisonville; one brother, Ray Anders and wife, Dee, Archie; two sisters, Shirley Perry, Peculiar, and Patricia Baldwin, Harrisonville; and her angels, 15 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Friday, April 19, at Atkinson Funeral Home in Harrisonville. Visitation was 6-8 p.m. April 18 at the funeral home. (Cremation following services). Memorial contributions may be made to Disabled Veterans.
