The Harrisonville United Methodist Church Relay for Life team will host a pancake/sausage breakfast 7-10 a.m., Saturday, April 27, at the chuch’s RCLC.

Cost is $5 for adults, $3 for children 10 and under. All proceeds will benefit the Cass County Relay for Life and the American Cancer Society. For more information, contact Gail Roberts at 816-726-3129.

One Act Capstone


Calvary Bible College is hosting a One Act Capstone Festival 6:30-8:30 p.m. Saturday, April 27, in the Liberty Chapel, 15790 Elmwood Ave., Kansas City. The performance will feature two theatre seniors directing and producing a one act festival. Cost is $5.


There will be an all-you-can-eat breakfast 7-9:30 a.m. Saturday, April 27, at the Garden City Masonic Lodge. Meal includes eggs, biscuits and gravy, sausage and pancakes. Cost is $5. Children under age 10 are free.

Fish fry

There will be an all-you-can-eat fish fry dinner 5-8 p.m. Saturday, April 27, at the Garden City Masonic Lodge. Meal includes fish and fixings. Cost is $10 for adults, $6 for children under 12.

Byler Cemetery


The Byler Cemetery Association will have their annual meeting and workday 9 a.m. Saturday, April 27, at the cemetery, located at the corner of Byler Road and 331st Street in Creighton. For more information, contact Melton Thorburg at 816-773-6449.

Bright Futures breakfast

The community is invited to a breakfast benefiting Bright Futures Harrisonville. The Cass County Elks Lodge will host the breakfast on Sunday, April 28, from 8:30-11:00 a.m.

The price for breakfast is $6 which will include bacon or sausage, eggs to order, hash browns and biscuits and gravy. Coffee is free; milk and juice is $1.00 each.

Belton Historical

Society meeting

The Belton Historical Society will hold its quarterly meeting at 2:30 p.m. Sunday, April 28, at Belton Presbyterian Church, 122 Main St., This will be an especially entertaining meeting, as the society will be hosting the Bluegrass Missourians, an award-winning five-piece bluegrass group.

Everyone is invited to come to the meeting and learn about the history of bluegrass, as well as hear some wonderful music from these accomplished musicians.

Archie Early Childhood Center Enrollment Day

Archie Early Childhood Center will be hosting a Preschool Enrollment Day 1-2 p.m. Monday, April 29. During the scheduled time, parents and guardians may visit the preschool, pick up 2013-2014 enrollment packets, ask questions and receive information regarding the upcoming school year. Orchestra performance

Calvary Bible College Orchestra will perform 7:30-8:30 p.m. Monday, April 29, in the Liberty Chapel, 15790 Elmwood Ave., Kansas City. The performance will feature a variety of instrumental music of different genres. Free admission.

Rummage and bake sale

The residents of Foxcroft, located at 200 Pheasant Rd., Harrisonville, will host a rummage and bake sale 8 a.m.-2 p.m. Saturday, May 4.

Food pantry

Grace Christian Tabernacle Church in Harrisonville will be hosting a food pantry 4-7 p.m. Tuesday, May 7, and 9 a.m.-1 p.m. Wednesday, May 8.

Veteran’s Assistance

The Disabled American Veterans Chapter No. 67 of Butlerwill be at the Masonic Lodge, 709 Old Seven Highway, Garden, City, 9 a.m.-4 p.m. Wednesday May 8, to assist veterans in applying for their benefits.

vision meeting

Junk in the Trunk

The Harrisonville Chamber invites the public to the first “Junk in the Trunk” flea market event 5-7 p.m. Saturday, May 11, on the city’s square. The event is held monthly on the second Saturday from May to October.

African Children’s Choir

The internationally acclaimed African Children’s Choir performing at Harrisonville Church of the Nazarene at 7 p.m. Sunday, May 12.

Food pantry giveaway

Grace Christian Tabernacle, 709 S. Butler Dr., Harrisonville, will be giving away food from 4-6 p.m. the first Tuesday of the month and from 9 a.m.-1 p.m. the first Wednesday of the month.

The program is for Harrisonville residents only. Proper identification is required, along with a current utility bill. For more information, call 816-380-7646.

Raymore Historical Society meeting

The Raymore Historical Society meets the second Tuesday each month at 7 p.m. in the museum located in the lower level of the Cullen Funeral Home, 612 W. Foxwood Dr., Raymore. The May 14, 2013 meeting will feature Janet Miller portraying Carolyn Scott Harrison, wife of President William Harrison. All are welcome to attend. The museum is ADA accessible.

Class reunion

Number Nine, District 35 of Cass County, School Reunion for all classes will be Saturday, May 18, at Sycamore Grove Mennonite Church, 27221 S. Sycamore Grove Rd., Garden City.

Meet and greet will be at 4:30 p.m., with a banquet to follow at 6 p.m., catered by Kurzweil Meats. Cost is $15 per person. RSVP requested by May 10. Contact Robert Surber at 816-797-4243 for more information.

5K Walk/Run

The community is invited to participate in the first-ever Harrisonville Middle School Wildcat Run Wednesday, May 22. The event will benefit the HMS physical education department.

The event will feature a 5K which begins and ends at Harrisonville Middle School. Registration for the 5K is $20 and the pre-registration deadline is Friday, May 3. However, participants may register up to the day of the race for an additional $5 per person.

All pre-registrants will receive a race T-shirt. Sponsorships for the Wildcat Run are available.

Sponsorship levels begin at $100 for a White Sponsor. Royal Blue Sponsorships are $500 and True Wildcat Sponsorships are $1,000.

Prizes will be awarded for top finishers in each grade as well as top fundraisers for each grade. Registration forms are available online or at Harrisonville Middle School, 601 S. Highland. Race-day registration begins at 8:30 a.m.
