Drexel boys win district meet

The Drexel boys’ track and field team took first place at the Class 1, District 3 meet held May 4 at Midway with a team score of 154 points, also qualifying several athletes to sectionals.

“I thought my boys battled through the elements very well,” Drexel head track and field coach Nate Danneman said. “We did what we had to do to get the job done. I very proud of them and expect even more out of them now heading into sectionals and state.”

The top four individuals and relay teams of each event earn a spot at the Class 1, Sectional 2 meet slated for Saturday, May 11 at Fair Grove High School. The Bobcats had eight individuals and four relays qualify for sectionals

Hunter Sturm earned a spot in three events, with a first place finish in the 100-meter dash with a time of 11.4 seconds, a first place time of 23.4 in the 200-meter dash and second in the long jump with a distance of 19 feet, 9 1/2 inches.

Chase Reyolds finished first in the 1,600-meter run with a time of 4 minutes, 54.6 seconds and first in the 3,200-meter run with a time of 10:38.3.

The 4x200-meter relay team of Tyler Allen, Javyn Johnston, Trevor Stewart and Sturm finished first with a time of 1:35.3, the 4x800-meter relay team of Jacob Antley, CJ Bolton, Chase Reyolds and Chance Reyolds placed first with a time of 8:46.1, the 4x400-meter relay team of CJ Bolton, Antley, Johnston and Trevor Cooley took second with a time of 3:37.2 and the 4x100-meter relay team of Allen, Cooley, Mark Willy and Stewart took third with a time of 47.1.

Allen placed third in the 200-meter dash with a time of 24.2. Johnston took second in the 400-meter dash with a time of 54.7, followed by Cooley in third with 54.8. Cooley also took first in the triple jump with a leap of 40 feet, 6 inches.

Stewart finished second in the discus throw with a toss of 116 feet, 5 inches. Antley took third in the 800-meter run with a time of 2:11.1 and Bolton finished third in the high jump with a height of 6 feet.

The Midway boys’ track and field team placed second at the district meet with a team score of 120 points.

Peyton Semsch took home golds in three events, earning first in the 110-meter hurdles with a time of 16.3, first in the 300-meter hurdles with a time of 43.7 and first in the pole vault with a height of 12 feet.

Dylan Wise finished first in the 400-meter dash with a time of 54.4.

Bobby Zielinski took second in the 200-meter dash with a time of 23.5 and second in the high jump with a height of 6 feet, 2 inches.

Joey Beller placed second in the shot put with a toss of 41 feet, 2 1/4 inches, followed by teammate Christian Cromer in third with a distance of 39 feet, 8 1/4 inches. Beller also took fourth in the discus throw with a distance of 112 feet, 3 inches.

The 4x400-meter relay team of Clay Dahman, Conor Hayes, Wise and Zielinski finished first with a time of 3:35.3, 4x100-meter relay team of Wise, Shane White, Hayes and Jake Lambertz took second with a time of 47.1 and the 4x200-meter relay team of Wise, Zielinski, Hayes and White placed second with a time of 1:36.2.

Dahman took fourth in the long jump with a distance of 19 feet, 2 inches.

The Midway girls’ track and field team placed second with a team score of 117 points, behind Jasper in first with a score of 139.5 points.

Kathleen Yoakum took first in the 400-meter dash with a time of 1:00.1 and first in the 800-meter run with a time of 2:34.5.

The 4x200-meter relay team of Jessica Owens, Dee Stark, Cady Wright and Yoakum placed first with a time of 1:52.6, the 4x400-meter relay team of Yoakum, Owens, Stark and Wright took first with a time of 4:17.6, the 4x100-meter relay team of Allie Hayes, Wright, Tayler Pierce and Laine Mills finished third with a time of 55.6 and the 4x800-meter relay team of Stark, Hayes, Owens and Terri Pierce took third with a time of 11:00.9.

O’Brien placed first in the pole vault with a height of 9 feet, 6 inches and Mills took fourth in the event with a height of 7 feet. Miranda Dahman took second in the triple jump with a distance of 30 feet, 5 inches.

Wright finished second in the 300-meter hurdles with a time of 48.5, followed by Stark in fourth with a time of 52.4.

The Drexel girls’ track and field team finished seventh with a team score of 31 points.

The 4x800-meer relay team of Jenna Bartholomew, Lauryn Campbell, Sarah Cawby and Jacy Bolton took second with a time of 10:54.6.

Bartholomew placed fourth in the 800-meter run with a time of 2:42.5 and Cawby took fourth in the 1,600-meter run with a time of 6:04.2.
