No. 1 seeded Drexel easily took down its competition to capture the Class 1, District 7 title.

In the semifinals May 13 at Drexel, the Bobcats spread No. 4 seeded Bronaugh 11-1 in five innings.

“It was a great game overall for the Bobcats,” Drexel head coach Bryon Cecil said. “We played solid defense and had a great pitching performance by Trevor Gunnels. Our hitters had a lot of quality at bats and put pressure on Bronaugh’s defense.”

Bronaugh scored first in the top of the second inning, but Drexel quickly responded with five runs in the bottom of the inning. The Bobcats started with bases loaded on walks by Austin Davis, Chandler Eastwood and Gunnels.

After two strikeouts, Hayden Parks singled to send Davis home. Then London Collins singled to send Eastwood home and Tyler Allen walked to walk Gunnels home. Lane West singled next to put Parks and Collins across home plate.

The Bobcats kept up the scoring in the bottom of the fourth inning as Parks and Allen singled. West walked and Davis singled to send Parks and Allen home and put Drexel ahead 7-1. Gunnels hit a single next to give West a run and then Justin Frazee doubled to send Eastwood and Gunnels home and make the score 10-1.

Drexel ended the game in the bottom of the fifth inning as Parks walked and Collins hit a single to send Parks home.

The Bobcats shut out No. 2 seeded Sheldon 7-0 in the championship game held May 14.

Drexel, 6-4, faces Weaubleau in the Class 1 sectional game at 4:30 p.m. Monday, May 20 at Drexel.
