Cass County prosecutors charged two brothers from Adrian with kidnapping after they allegedly held a pair of teens against their will in a shed in Archie.

According to prosecutors, Eric Morgan, 32, and his older brother, Shawn Morgan, 36, were charged with kidnapping and armed criminal action after an incident on May 10 at 29809 E. B Highway in Archie. They reportedly held Jared Lindley, 18, and Kurt Matthews, 17, against their will for about three hours late Friday evening in a shed at the Morgan brothers’ mother’s home.

The victims said the Morgan brothers came to Matthews’ family residence in Garden City where the teens were working on Matthews’ truck earlier in the day.

Matthews said the brothers asked him to get his hood out of the back of their truck. Matthews said to them he needed a tool to work on his truck’s transmission and the Morgans told him he could borrow a tool from their shop at their mother’s home.

Once at the shop to pick up the tool at approximately 9:30 p.m., Eric Morgan gave Lindley a can of beer. Lindley said the beer, which was expired, “tasted like crap.”

According to the probable cause statement Eric Morgan believed Lindley previously stole an unreported amount of moonshine from the shed two weeks prior and was looking to scare the teen in retaliation.

Lindley said that Eric Morgan tried to punch him, but missed and hit a wall instead, then put him in a headlock, placing a .22 caliber revolver into the left side of his body and yelling at him.

Eric Morgan reportedly let Lindley out of the headlock and pushed him to Shawn Morgan who also put the teen in a headlock.

Lindley told investigators that the next thing he remembered from the incident was Eric Morgan pinning him to a wall by his throat and yelling at him about how he entered the property to steal the alcohol.

Eric Morgan then allegedly put the gun to Lindley’s head, while also shooting one shot at the ceiling and two shots toward Lindley’s feet.

The other teen asked five or six times but the brothers would not let him leave.

The victims said after three hours of being held against their will, the Morgan brothers released them at 12:40 a.m.

The teens contacted county law enforcement officers about the incident on Saturday.

Eric Morgan was charged with two counts of kidnapping, one count of armed criminal action, and one count of assault in the second degree.

Shawn Morgan was charged with two counts of kidnapping and one count of armed criminal action. Bond was set at $50,000 cash/surety and both were held in the Cass County Jail until Sunday afternoon after posting bond.

Arraignment is scheduled for 9 a.m. May 16.
