Hopkins competes at state

Raymore-Peculiar senior Travis Hopkins, the first Panther tennis player in school history to qualify for the state tournament, went far in the Class 2 singles championships May 24-25 at Cooper Tennis Complex, Springfield.

Hopkins won the first round by default over Rockhurst’s Alexander Koca, but lost the quarterfinals to Alex Pozo of Christian Brothers 2-6 and 2-6.

In the consolation quarterfinals, Hopkins defeated Lee’s Summit West’s Tanner Ferrell 6-1 and 3-0 after Ferrell retired from the match early. Hopkins was defeated by Chaminade’s Trevor Allen 6-4, 2-6 and 0-6 in the consolation semifinals.
