The Cass County Commission met July 11 to approve a handful of agenda items. The commission also held a public hearing to temporarily close a portion of McClellan Road in Drexel.
Associate Commissioner Jimmy Odom was absent from the meeting.
Petitioners of the county road closure request are asking to vacate a portion of S. McClellan Road, beginning at 331st Street (OO Highway) for one-third of a mile north, where it ends at the driveway to a barn at 32809 S. McClellan Rd.
Glen Wilson, of Joplin, who owns a 160-acre farm that borders the road, stated an opposition to the proposed closure.
The request for the road closure was made in March as Drexel Ranch, LLC, is in the process of building a recreation and watershed lake in the area west of the road. Owners believe access to the road will increase potential threats of trespass, vandalism and trash dumping.
The issue will be on the agenda for approval during the commission meeting Thursday, Oct. 3
In other meeting business, commissioners took the following actions:
Renewed the county’s Code of Ethics agreement.
Approved Collector Pam Shipley’s request for disbursement of 2010 tax sale surplus monies certificate to Rosa and Michelle Maldonado for $7,656.54.
