Two pedestrians were killed as a result of separate motor vehicle crashes on July 27 in Belton.

Jeffrey Gaches, 44, of Lodi, Calif., was struck by a vehicle while crossing the northbound lanes of Interstate 49 near the Missouri 58 interchange 12:30 a.m. Saturday.

Gaches was pronounced dead at the scene.

The driver of the vehicle who allegedly hit Gaches, Kyle Gloria, Jr. 34, of Sugar Creek, has been charged with a Class D felony of Driving While Revoked. Gloria is being held in the Cass County Jail with bond set at $25,000.

The investigation is still ongoing at this time, police say.

A 6-year-old Belton boy also died from the injuries he sustained after being hit by a vehicle shortly before 8 p.m. Saturday on 58 near Cherry Hill Drive.

Belton police have identified the child as James Guzman.

The boy was hit by a 73-year-old man who was driving in the westbound lane.

Based on witness information, police believe the boy ran out from parked cars into the street and was struck.

Guzman was transported to an area hospital with critical injuries where he died July 28 afternoon.

No charges have been filed, but police continue to investigate the incident.
