Betty Gail Ellis

Jan. 25, 1933 - July 23, 2013

Betty Gail Ellis, 80, Adrian, died Tuesday, July 23, 2013 at her home. Betty was born Jan. 25, 1933, in Baltimore, Md., the daughter of Kenneth and Lillian (Kuegler) Ely.

She was raised by her grandparents, Roy and Gail Ely, and grew up in California. She married Robert N. Ellis on Dec.19, 1960. She had lived in Archie for 26 years before moving to Hermitage. She lived in Hermitage for 10 years before moving to Adrian in 2007. She was a homemaker.

Betty was preceded in death by her husband, Robert, on Nov. 8, 2006, and two brothers, Richard Ely and Bobby Ely. She is survived by one son, David Ellis, Drexel; two sisters, Judy Bearce, Harrisonville and Barbara Lehija, Phoenix, Ariz., and two grandsons, Jason and Joshua.

There was a visitation July 26 at Atkinson Funeral Home in Harrisonville. Cremation. Inurnment will be in Crescent Hill Cemetery in Adrian at a later date. Contributions to: Grace Hospice, 9233 Ward Parkway, Suite 201, Kansas City, MO 64114.

Robert Eugene Herman, Sr.

Dec. 26, 1925 - July 25, 2013

Robert (Bob) Herman, 87, of Adrian, died Thursday, July 25, 2013, at his home surrounded by his family. Bob was born Dec. 26, 1925, in Butler, the son of Frank Dowell and Nina Lillian (Lynch) Herman.

Funeral services were July 29 at Atkinson Funeral Home in Adrian with burial in Crescent Hill Cemetery.

James Arliss Holzbaur

June 10, 1931 - July 25, 2013

James Arliss Holzbaur, 82, of Pleasant Hill, died Thursday, July 25, 2013, at his home surrounded with love and family.

Jim was a U.S. Air Force Korean War Veteran.

Funeral services were July 30 at the funeral home. A Final Salute ceremony was performed by Pleasant Hill VFW Post#3118. Graveside military services and interment were in Pleasant Hill Cemetery with full military honors by U.S. Air Force and VFW Post #3118 Honor Guard.

Sammy Joe King

Dec. 14, 1927 - July 25, 2013

Sammy Joe “Sam” King, 85, of Garden City, was born Dec. 14, 1927, on a farm near East Lynne, the son of Clyde Everett and Laura Verena (Dale) King. He died Thursday, July 25, 2013, at Cass Regional Medical Center, Harrisonville.

On Dec. 27, 1950, Sam was united in marriage to Arlene Coleman at Garden City Baptist Church.

Sam was employed as a manager for Suburban Propane in Harrisonville until his retirement in 1993 and earlier by Skelgas, Garden City. He was a graduate of Garden City High School. Sam faithfully attended and served at Heart of Life Church and helped build the new church. Sam served on Garden City Park Board and Ball Association, Fire Department Board, Garden City Ambulance District, City Council and was mayor of Garden City and was a charter member and currently served on the Garden City Senior Housing. He was “Mr. Fix-it” because he could fix anything and did so for anyone who asked.

Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Norma Cummins, and two brothers, Bob King and Clyde King Jr.

Sam is survived by his wife, Arlene King of the home; a son, Kevin King and wife Connie, Garden City; a daughter, Cindy Neumeyer and husband Norman, Independence; a grandson, Jeremy King and wife Deedra; two great-granddaughters, Sierra and Mackenzie; a brother, Richard King, East Lynne; other relatives and many friends.

Funeral services were July 29 at Heart of Life Church, Garden City, with burial in Garden City Cemetery.

Gail Garnet Kroenke

March 6, 1932 - July 25, 2013

Gail Garnet Kroenke, D.V.M., 81, of Harrisonville, died Thursday, July 25, 2013, at Crown Care Center in Harrisonville.

Gail was born March 6, 1932, in Kansas City, the son of Garnet and Martha (Bronaugh) Kroenke. He was a 1950 graduate of Raytown High School and was a 1957 graduate of University of Missouri, Columbia, with a doctorate in veterinary medicine. Gail married Courtney “Cricket” Hunt on June 29, 1957; they were married for 56 years.

Gail worked as a veterinarian in Harrisonville for 53 years. He was a member of First Baptist Church in Harrisonville and was a member of American Veterinary Medicine Association (AVMA). He enjoyed time with his family and attending sporting events.

Gail was preceded in death by his parents. He is survived by his wife, Cricket, of the home; one daughter, Martha Hammons and her husband, Randy, Hawley, Texas, and their son, Tyler; son, Ron Kroenke and his wife, Robin, Harrisonville, and their children, Sydney and Stuart; son, Bill Kroenke, Pittsburg, Kan., and his son, Kaleb, and one sister, Marilyn Scherer of Centerview.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be given to Cass Regional Medical Center Foundation, 2800 E. Rock Haven Road, Harrisonville, MO 64701. The family of Gail G. Kroenke wishes to thank Crown Care Nursing Facility and Grace Hospice.

Memorial services were at 3 p.m. July 30 at First Baptist Church in Harrisonville. Visitation was 6-8 p.m. July 29 at Atkinson Funeral Home in Harrisonville.

Kathyrn Marie Whited

Oct. 15. 1935 - July 25, 2013

Kathryn Marie Whited, 77, of Kansas City, died Thursday, July 25, 2013, at St. Joseph Medical Center in Kansas City.

Kathryn was born Oct. 15, 1935, in Peculiar, the daughter of Carl Jesse and Callie Lulu (Hoenshell) Urton. She was born and raised in Peculiar and was a 1954 graduate of Peculiar High School. She married Charles Whited on May 19, 1954, and moved to Kansas City, where they made their home.

Kathryn had worked for Sears at Bannister Mall for 20 years. She was a member of Blue River Bible Church and various church groups.

Kathryn was preceded in death by her parents. She is survived by her husband, Charles, of the home; two sons, Tracy Whited, Raymore, and Terry Whited, Kansas City; two daughters, Theresa Sikorski, Sun City, Ariz., and Tonya Dib, New York, New York; one brother, Carl Mitchell Urton, Rich Hill; two sisters, Violet Evans, Independence, and Dorothy Loyd, Peculiar; seven grandchildren and one great-granddaughter.

Funeral services were July 31 at Atkinson Funeral Home in Harrisonville, with burial in Wills Cemetery, Peculiar. Memorial contributions may be made to the Blue River Bible Church.

Linda Lou Leister, 71, of Amsterdam, died Friday, July 26, 2013, at St. Joseph Medical Center in Kansas City.

Marilee Phyllis Frazier

Marilee Phyllis Frazier, 67, of Peculiar, died Saturday, July 27, 2013, at her home.

Marilee was born Aug.17, 1945, in Escondido, Calif., the daughter of Jack and Mary Phyllis (Schnure) Bonshire. She worked in internal customer service for Sprint.

Marilee was a former barrel-racing competitor and was a former member of NBHA in Kansas. She was an avid treasure collector. She loved to travel and sightsee. She was very artistic and creative. She loved animals of all kinds, and raised three pet raccoons.

Marilee was preceded in death by her parents. She is survived by two daughters, Dena Fairchild and her husband, Kevin, Ringgold, Ga., and CeCe Noriega, Peculiar; two brothers, Jack Bonshire, II and his wife, Ellen, Crestline, Calif., and Tom Bonshire and his wife, Judy, Mesa, Ariz.; two sisters, Kathy Reinhard and her husband, Ray, Leucadia, Calif., and Bonnie Hargis and husband, Kevin, Fallon, Nev.; three grandchildren, Jessica White, Jack White and Taylor White; one great-grandson, Kolby Hill; and numerous extended family and friends.

Memorial services were July 31 at Heart of Life Church in Lee’s Summit. Cremation. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to American Cancer Society or any animal rescue facility.
